Yes, I dug that up after asking.

Charging large amount 55k

Tomorrow, I will call citi to charge >$55k to my Alaska visa. I've requested my card note that I will place a large transaction. Anything else I should be prepared for?

Called and citi let me make a transaction 20K over my CL on my Premier card. lol.

By the way, has anyone paid off their citi card from the citigold account they just funded? Or is that just asking for trouble?

To answer the above, it seems a little risky, but others have reported doing so without any issue.

Nice. I've heard the World Elite cards, such as the Prestige, are flexible spend, but I haven't figured out how exactly it works. With Amex, there's a place on the site where one can check spending ability, but I haven't come across such an option for the Prestige.

I assume you called the Prestige customer service number to ask about the over-limit charge before calling to fund Citigold? If so, did you have to disclose the actual charge or did they just tell you your actual spending limit?

Also, how much history do you have with the Prestige? In percentage terms, how much was the $20k over your CL?

Thanks very much.

Opps I mean Premier, keep getting those confused.

I called in and they transferred me to a credit specialist. They said sure and asked me how much. I asked them to give me a ceiling but they said it doesn't work that way. So I said 20K over my limit and they said they would do a soft pull. Came back a few min later authorizing the charge. Even got a alert of a balance overage in my email, though no sign of it in my online acct. Normally they said you'd have till midnight to make the charge but I'll make it tomorrow. They made the auth good for 48 hours.

Catch was that the balance over the CL needs to be paid off in full at the next statement cycle. Fat chance I'm gonna let that cycle with that balance. it'll throw my reports into disarray if I used 2x my CL over, lol.

I only have about 4 months history with the Premier.

Interesting; thanks.

Did you have to disclose the specific merchant (and/or amount) or did they just temporarily raise your CL to the number you requested? Also, how much over your credit limit was the $20k? Thanks again.

How long to wait before trying CC funding again

Opened Citi Gold account on 12/31, approved for prestige 1/15, Called Citi and told them to annotate account that $6k purchase would be going through within the next three days. 1/26 Called Citi Gold new accounts and gave them info to fund new account with prestige card. Said that transaction would go through at 5:30AM. Checked this morning and no activity on prestige card. Should I wait another day and see if the charge shows up? Or is it safe to assume that the charge failed and proceed with trying to fund the account with a different card?

What time did you check your Citi accounts? From what I've read, sometimes the charge doesn't show up online until late morning or early afternoon.

Also, did you open the Citigold account online or in a branch? If the latter, it's not eligible for CC funding.

Lastly, are you sure about the 12/31 open date? You only have 30 days to fund a Citigold account, so you're at the point where a couple days could make a big difference.

I applied online. I know that I am right up against the deadline. Maybe I should call and ask if they can extend the funding period manually. I was imagining that if the funding was in progress it likely wouldn't cancel out the account. Or if the funding failed, then I can always apply for the new 50k citigold offer and then try again. I wonder if they would approve opening the account again?

Did you call Citigold and/or Citi to ask about the charge? The latter should at least be able to tell you if the charge was attempted.

Good thought. Citi gold won't open until the morning anyhow. So I might as well give it until then and see if it posts. Will update with results. (I have read mixed accounts on DOC about funding CitiGold with Prestige). Fingers crossed and thanks for the reply jsk1973!

Good luck. Not sure why the Prestige wouldn't work; I haven't seen anyone here mention problems funding with it.

I was only a little nervous because at the top of DOCs page about funding bank accounts with CC he has this disclaimer;

"Citi almost always counts as a cash advance. Citi is extremely strict when it comes to this type of thing and will always code it as a cash advance. We don’t recommend trying to fund a new account with a Citi credit card, unless you’re happy to pay the cash advance fees."
