Reimbursement times vary but seem to have improved in 2017, now about 2 weeks is most common. See this thread for details.

Starting for reservations made on or after July 23, 2017, this benefit will give you the average nightly rate on stays of 4+ nights, and will NOT include taxes.

FAQ
Will I be able to earn points on rooms booked via the Concierge?
Yes

What rates can the Concierge book?
Any rate you can book online at the hotel website should be bookable by the Concierge.

Are taxes included in the 4th night refund?
Currently yes. For reservations made on or after July 23, 2017, this will change and taxes will not be included.

How to book.

By phone: 1-561-922-0158 (concierge direct), or call the toll free number on the back of your card.

By email: Send to [email protected].
Include:
  • Your name & email
  • Last 4 digits of your card number
  • Hotel name (plus address or link if it may be confused with a similar named property)
  • Stay dates
  • Number of guests in the room
  • Any rate type requests (AAA, AARP, etc)

If hotels.com has the better rate and hotel website do not have, you can get BRG discount from hotel group. And once CWT quoted me a higher price than hotel group's website and I replied email about that. CWT matched it.

Sure when I need exactly 4 nights, I use this service. And when the price is firm during special occasion like Christmas and new year eve, or room is almost sold out, CWT is like angel, which is the only way to save some money.

At hotel.com, if you stay 11 nights you pay for 10 of them. Your rebate is (1 + 10*(10%) = 2/11 = 18.18%

With the Citi benefit if you stay 4 nights you pay for 3 of them so your rebate is (1 + 3*3%) / 4 = 1.09 / 4 = 27.25%.

Obviously the number for Citi is much higher, but the downside is that it's a max -- you only get that amount if you stay exactly 4 nights. If you stay 5 nights it's 1.12 / 5 = 22.4%. If you stay 6 nights it's 1.15 / 6 = 19.16%. If you stay 7 nights it's 1.18 / 7 = 16.8%.

So the best stategy seems to be to use the benefit on nights of 4-6 nights only, and use hotel.com through a portal for any other length stay.

This also all assumes that TYP are worth 1c each, which seems low. If you have a different valuation in mind you can redo the math (it probably won't change much)
You forgot the 7% cashback that you get at hotels.com in addition to the other rebates.

No I didn't. That's 7 of the 10% that you get on 10 of the 11 nights.

You stay 11 nights:

You don't pay for one of them. That's 1 night.
You get 7% back on the 10 paid nights. That's 10*7% = 70% of a night.
You get 3% back on the card the 10 paid nights. That's 10*3% = 30% of a night.

Your total rebate is (1 + 0.7 + 0.3) / 11 = 2/11 = 18.18%

OK I see. Also, I agree that this undervalues the TYP. At 1.5c it's 20% (hotels.com) vs 28.5% (CWT).

If you book through CWT, though, most BRG programs won't work, since you need to book directly through the hotel group for them to apply.

I'm not sure what the FT policy is on posting links, but google "cwt vacations hotels"

You actually pay for all 4 nights, and get a statement credit for the fourth night, so it is possible that you actually get to keep the TYP for the fourth night, possibly making citi an even better deal (this wouldn't change the 4-6 nights sweet spot though). Someone who has completed a stay and received the statement credit could better comment.

Thanks.

(And as long as you don't have a financial interest in what you're linking to, it's generally OK.)

Per this post, they will credit you 3x TYP upon booking, and then remove 1X TYP upon the fourth night being refunded.

I could be an undercover cwt representative, touting the benefits of booking through citi

Thanks! I clearly didn't carefully read the rest of the thread.

Here is mastercard's luxury hotel portfolio:

http://www.nxtbook.com/nxtbooks/Mast...ld/#/1/OnePage

Presumably, these could be combined with the 4th night free benefit (although likely at a higher rate than lowest rate on the hotel's website).

Apparently it seems like cwt is part of the virtuoso network as well (http://www.cwtvacations.com/content....l=virtuosoBest). Has anyone tried to use virtuoso benefits with the prestige 4th night free?

Thanks!

I asked them to book at a few properties with Virtuoso rate but none of the travel specialists can do it. They said they aren't part of virtuoso. Used to be.

Another problem is they can't do 2016. They can book for you but the 4th night benefits are not renewed for 2016 just yet.

Thanks for the feedback. I tried to book the virtuoso rates as well, but the feedback I got was that the two programs "are incompatible," which is really disappointing. Presumably, the cut that they make off the virtuoso hotels at the virtuoso rate is less than the standard 20%, but its still disappointing that they can't extend both benefits, especially to (presumably) some of their biggest spenders on a very high annual-fee card.

2016 is not a problem for me yet (I'm surprised people book stuff this far in advance!), but it sucks that you can't do it.

Has anybody tried this yet with Marriott? Did Marriott extend any elite benefits or elite qualifying nights for the stay?
