Newbie question

I'm sure this question must have come up, but i can't find my answer. How do you know the exact number of points needed per night at a given hotel? I don't have any points in my account yet, which seems to block me from seeing the information I need.

If you have a specific hotel in mind, I think you can call CS and they would give you the answer.

Okay, thank you. I was trying to decide whether it was worth getting the charge card for an upcoming trip to Ireland, and was hoping there might be a list somewhere that I wasn't seeing. I don't have a specific hotel in mind yet.

Well, if you don't mind listing the cities in Ireland you're considering staying in and the approximate dates (redemption rates can vary over the course the year), someone who does have points (and a longer booking window due to their Choice status) might be able to look it up for you, depending on how far out it is. (The previous Choice site used to list the points required for the next couple quarters on each hotel's individual site, but the new Choice site doesn't, so it's may be hard to see the points requirements far out into the year.)

In the choicehotels.com search engine, just select "Choice Privileges Reward Night" in the 'Special Rate' field. There's no need to sign into your account just to see the required point values by hotel.

But if you do click on 'Book Now' for a particular hotel, then it will state "Please sign in to access this rate". If you do sign into your account at that point and don't have any points, then it will state "You do not have enough points for this reservation" and unfortunately you won't be able to see the room types available for the date(s) chosen.

Thanks. but when I don't sign in, it says it won't give me that information until I sign in.

I may try what sdsearch suggests. I haven't thoroughly researched my options yet, but I'm curious about the point rate of the Limerick Clarion in late May-early June.

Oh, I think I see what may be happening here. You must be searching for reward night rooms more than 60 days out. For some hotels, you will receive the "NO AVAILABILITY FOR SELECTED DATES" message when searching beyond the standard (non-elite) booking window. If you look at Clarion Hotel Limerick with a current date, you should see 8,000 points required. But as sdsearch indicated previously, redemption rates can vary over the course the year. However, even Elite Diamond members can only go out 100 days, so if you're looking at May/June it would probably be best to call or email the Choice Service Center.

Logged in as Diamond, I still only see 60 days out on this one.

Thanks so much for all the help. I knew about the short time span they give you to book, so I used a January date. It still told me it couldn't give me the info if I didn't log in. Maybe it's my browser? Anyway, even if it changes by my time period, the 8k some of you can see gives me a general idea. I'll try calling to get a more accurate answer. Thanks again.
