Groupon question
At the risk of asking a really naive question I'm not very familiar on how Groupon works yet but I'm staying at the Clarion in LV and they are running a $39 special which would represent a significant savings over their weekend rates. I've read up on the fine print and other than some blackout dates it appears to be a straightforward deal. I understand I'll probably be responsible for taxes above the face value of the deal but does anyone know if I can still qualify for points or airlines if I use these kind of deals?
Thanks

I don't think it is a naive question at all. I have wondered the same thing when viewing some of the Groupon offers.
Are you saying that if you purchase this offer from Groupon for $ 39 they will send you a voucher for one night at the Clarion in Las Vegas ?
If that is the case then I would be very surprised if you would earn Choice points or airline miles as it is probably considered a 3rd party booking.
But if you are going to stay there anyway, give them your Choice number and see what happens. I don't think there is any downside to giving it a try.
Let us know the result please.

I bought a deal on Travelzoo which is similar to Groupon for 2-night stay in Napa with Doubletree (Hilton). It was an awesome deal and when we booked it over the phone I asked about earning points--they said no. But when we got to the hotel I asked the desk clerk to submit my number anyway for grins and I actually got the points.
I love these kind of deals!

I think I'll give it a shot and find out what happens. I think like the replies have said it's probably considered a 3rd party booking but I'll report my number when I check-in and see what happens, I've got nothing to lose. Thanks for the replies and I'll report back on how it turns out. BTW, I also use one of the rebate sites for bookings and hopefully I can derive some additional savings their as well on this deal.

To the comment re the Doubletree, I've had hotels in the Hilton family break the rule a few times when an airline was putting me up due to an IRROPS misconnect. Don't know if it was because I was a Diamond/Gold. Anyway, the small points involved were a nice way of expressing that "loyalty is a two-way street".
