I bought a deal on Travelzoo which is similar to Groupon for 2-night stay in Napa with Doubletree (Hilton). It was an awesome deal and when we booked it over the phone I asked about earning points--they said no. But when we got to the hotel I asked the desk clerk to submit my number anyway for grins and I actually got the points.

To the comment re the Doubletree, I've had hotels in the Hilton family break the rule a few times when an airline was putting me up due to an IRROPS misconnect. Don't know if it was because I was a Diamond/Gold. Anyway, the small points involved were a nice way of expressing that "loyalty is a two-way street".
