Ctrip Accepts Paypal Now

I know there was some posts earlier about ctrip trying to accept paypal (folks had issues with bad links etc), but right now it looks like it's working and ctrip is pushing it hard. Promo is live now with:

- 8% discounts on domestic flights (mainland)
- 5% of that is cash back
- 3% savings on the 3% fee you would normally pay

Promo runs May 1- July 31st.

Its customary for the merchant to be charged the 3% not the buyer.

So I guess they add a 3% fee for using paypal to pay for the ticket.
Then refund the 3% back.

Customers will also be refunded the 3% transaction surcharge based on full ticket value (including fuel tax)

They should re-phrase it as "foreign transaction charge" as per paypal's legal agreement sellers
may not charge "surcharge" for accepting Paypal.

Funny, never tried it earlier, I think it still took the 3% fee with PP earlier though right?

I have a credit card with travel insurance, so when I purchase from ctrip I always use this credit card then I get the supplimental travel insurance with it.

If I connect my paypal with my travel credit card and use my paypal to pay for my ctrip tickets, would I be covered by my credit card for travel insurance?

Nice to know that it now accepts paypal. In last couple of days, I could not get onto it's web site in IE or FF. What's up with that?

Had same issue at least on the English page. Seemed to be a technical glitch, or maybe they were doing some sort of updating. Ctrip working OK now.

I am trying again to open the "english" page. After 4 minutes, I received enough in the browser to see most of the page. It looks different. They have re-designed at least the home page. On the right top (below the banner-pull-downs) is a big empty space (loading....). That might be some flash animation and what not. Did a flight search. It is so slooooooooow its rediculous.

I would agree with the slooooooowwww thing though :-)

I was using Ctrip last week and it was slow but usable.

I have been unable to book flights (although I wished to) on ctrip for the last 72 hours at least because it is simply unusably slow- even if very patient the slowness exceeds the timeout period and no response is received.

SO ... I have had to start checking FT to see what other websites I should be using !

Make sure you are using Internet Explorer as the browser. This goes for any Chinese-based website. Few websites here are optimized for any other browser and that goes double for anything interactive where you need to place a booking or an order.

If using IE doesn't fix the problem, then likely it's a temporary technical glitch on the ctrip end because they are monkeying around with the site. They normally will be doing this during the wee hours of the morning China time, so compensate for whatever time zone you are in, and don't try to access during the wee hours of China time.

The English page and order functionality seems to be working fine now.

+1. Esp airline websites, like MU and CZ, and don't forget all of the banks.
