Golfing around Beijing

I'll be in Beijing for 4 days the last week of October and am looking to play a round of golf. Looking for some personal recommendations/input other than what I can find on some websites. I can meet the handicap requirements and price is not an issue. Thanks for any input.

Was a member at Beijing Golf Club years ago. Back then was 36 holes. Personal favorite was Ming Tombs (Beijing International Golf Club). Both are out of the city center. Expect to pay at least 150 USD per round in China. Caddies mandatory.

I asked a friend to make some recommendations:
Pine Valley
Longxi Hotspring
Beijing Links

I am going to China with my 80 year old dad and sister the beginning of November. My dad wants to golf one day while my sister and I shop. Any recommendations for my father? I need to get him a tee time but have no clue where he should play. He mentioned Jade but I could not find any information. I appreciate any info you can provide.

Are you looking at a weekday or weekend tee-time. Weekend may be difficult as many courses are only open to members and their guests.
If weekend, you can try Beijing Orient GC. I know their Shanghai course is open to the public weekdays and weekends.

Do you want east side, or west side ?. 9 or 18 ? I like Willow golf club on the west side, its in Haidian, but they do NOT allow foreigner slow play... ( ie, no Japanese ) & its not cheap due to the city location.

As others have mentioned, the prime weekend tee times are reserved for members. BTW, i tip the caddies 50 rmb per 9 holes.

We will probably stay at the Marriott Great Wall and I think it is on the east side. Ideally it would be good to find a course near the hotel. We will be in Beijing during the week. I am not sure what Slow play is but we are not Japanese and my dad is decent from what I hear. He has been playing several days a week since retirement at age 57.

I'm assuming you mean the Marriott City Wall. While it is technically east of center, it is pretty much in the middle of town... equally far from any courses you might fancy. You might want to consider staying at the Marriott NE for a day or two instead; it is much cheaper, and I would argue that it's nicer.

Thank you, I did mean Marriott City Wall and I will consider Marriott NE. Do you know what courses are near NE?

There are no decent courses inside of 4th Ring, but the best places (don't get your hopes up) tend to be north of the city. If you stay at the Marriott NE, you won't have to endure as much traffic in order to get to them.

Is it possible to book a tee time before I arrive in Beijing? I looked at some of the golfing sites and it does not appear that I can. I will be visiting Guam and then will head over to Beijing so I would like to have a time for my dad confirmed. Will the Marriott NE be able to reserve for me if I cannot do it online?

I appreciate the responses I have received so far, thank you FT members!

Yes you can book a tee time the week before. Call the course directly (depending on which course you pick, receptionist may or may not speak English).

I played Earls Golf Club a couple weeks ago which may be an option for your dad, though maybe the closest course. Its not too long and has decent greens. You'd need to check though if you can get on, as i wasn't the one who booked.

You'll be looking at 700-1000 RMB all-in (green fee, caddie, mgmt, etc) for a weekday round at most of the courses you can play.

I can't believe I didn't think of this until now, but I have a friend who does all things golf in Beijing, and I've heard from others that he really knows his stuff. His name is Mick Quaid (Irish Golf). I've been meaning to go golfing with him, but haven't found the time to do so yet. If you can't find him on google, PM me and I'll send you his info.
