Unless you know some people on the ground in Shanghai, it's pretty hard to coordinate a driver from overseas...

I'd recommend picking up a cab as well. Make sure you have an address
written in Chinese.
If you are not so comfortable with that, you could arrange for a car
service from the tourist information center at the airport. Generally
lot more expensive, but fairly reliable.

Driver in Shanghai
Thanks Andrew and Cpx for your replies. I had read that the waiting line for a cab in PVG was around 45 minutes. In another list someone recommended a driver which charges much less than the hotel car.

I've never waited more than 10 minutes and have arrived at all times of the day.

The max. I ever had to wait for a cab at PVG was pretty much 20 minutes - so I really think you should have no trouble getting a cab - as long as you have the address written in Chinese etc.
Regards.

All China based companies have lists and phone numbers of cab companies that can be pre-ordered to meet pax at PVG. Either meter or set fee. Sometimes it's a waste of time to send company drivers all the way to PVG when a reliable cab driver gets the same job done.

PVG, on the other hand, I've never had a problem with. From PVG you could also take the maglev train to the edge of the city and take a cab too (if you're not pressed for time, its actually a fun trip, and faster).
