Bea Unless you know some people on the ground in Shanghai, it's pretty hard to coordinate a driver from overseas... |

Which airport? Also, is a cab out of the question? The cabs are relatively clean and honest in Shanghai.

Make sure you have an address written in Chinese. If you are not so comfortable with that, you could arrange for a car service from the tourist information center at the airport. Generally lot more expensive, but fairly reliable. |

Thanks Andrew and Cpx for your replies. I had read that the waiting line for a cab in PVG was around 45 minutes. In another list someone recommended a driver which charges much less than the hotel car.

Bea The max. I ever had to wait for a cab at PVG was pretty much 20 minutes - so I really think you should have no trouble getting a cab - as long as you have the address written in Chinese etc. Regards. |
All China based companies have lists and phone numbers of cab companies that can be pre-ordered to meet pax at PVG. Either meter or set fee. Sometimes it's a waste of time to send company drivers all the way to PVG when a reliable cab driver gets the same job done.

Bea PVG, on the other hand, I've never had a problem with. From PVG you could also take the maglev train to the edge of the city and take a cab too (if you're not pressed for time, its actually a fun trip, and faster). |
