Unaccompanied Minor Landing in Beijing
Hi all, we are thinking of sending bambino jr to spend a month or so with his grandparents in China this summer. He'll be 10, and we plan to take advantage of Air Canada's unaccompanied minor service. We'd see him off at Vancouver and they will meet him at the airport in Beijing.
What I am curious about is the practicalities of what happens once he lands. As in how he gets through passport control/customs, how he finds his welcoming party, etc.
He understands Mandarin quite well, and is generally conversational. Has flown extensively, almost 120 flights so far, and been through passport control over 50 times.
Any advice, especially location-specific would be greatly appreciated.

I believe they have special escorts to handle this sort of thing in Beijing.
IIRC, I have seen such minders with young children before, as they walk them from the plane, through customs, and to baggage claim.

One thing to be aware of. At least 5 or 6 years ago when my daughter was an unaccompanied minor going from China to the US, you were not allowed any transfers. For instance, I preferred that my daughter fly from Beijing to chicago and then Chicago to Cincinnati. Could only get the flight to Chicago.
