Beijing Universal Studio?

Anybody in Beijing that has updates on this? The only thing I can find from the website is opening May, 2021. Just though if locals may heard some additional news (delays, etc.)

The teaser video they released on their wechat account on 1/1 says Spring-Summer. So May still sounds about right.

if it's anything like Shanghai Disney, they will have some sort of a soft opening period of several weeks where only select people who can get tickets can visit while they iron out their wrinkles. The covid situation might actually work in their favor so they're not in a rush to ramp up attendance.

In the Disney case, the soft opening tickets weren't actually that hard to get if you asked around for people with connections, since even that numbered in the tens of thousands each day. Disney officially opened in June 2016, while the soft opening started around April I think. Assuming the May date for Universal is not pushed back, I would expect the soft opening schedule to be around the same as well.

I'd be willing to bet that it will open in some form on May 1.

At 8am.

But really, what will be showcased, considering local censorship? Why not a Wanda movie-themed park, where (given that it's the theme of many a film) half of the park-goers dress up as Imperial Japanese soldiers?

I worked on two theme park projects here 10+ years ago:
-first iteration of Universal
-Marvel before Disney bought it

Both were strongly supported by the Central Government. My contacts there actually liked the foreign branding, so long as they were majority shareholders (required by law at least back then).

I am not sure what about Transformers or Shrek that you think needs censorship... These are family parks.

wanda had (at least one) movie themed park. I went to the one in Wuhan. It failed spectacularly. No japanese soldiers though

Any updates? I'm trying to see if I can take the kid there in June, before the local schools get out.

The latest information from their official WeChat account had a post a week ago about their 2 resort hotels, and then nothing for a month back. And in trying to search for their 2 resort hotels, neither were able to be found (on Ctrip, etc.)

There's some posts on social media from people who went there this week and walked around. They saw a lot of incomplete construction. No information about tickets anywhere.

My guess is then it won't open in May, not even a soft opening.

Good source for recent pictures/state-of-completion: https://www.themeparx.com/universal-studios-beijing

Still "under construction" by the looks of things....but pretty darn close.
Any day now!

The latest - I heard June 10 for soft opening and then July 10 for official opening. But again, rumor, no hard sources.

Well, it's open now.
Huge lines to get in, I've heard.
