Many, if not most, chained 5-star hotels have VPN internet, but I still recommend getting your own VPN because you might want to use your laptop outside of the hotel.

No VPN at the Sheraton in Shanghai, nor at the Four Points by Sheraton Beijing Haidian. Always had to use my own VPN. VPN typically goes on when I enter China and does not get switched off until I leave.

We were at the hilton. Wifi slow, but worked fine on everything but project fi phone. No issues on laptop. Just can't do Google search, but was fine on other search engines

Is your phone a Nexus? Mine is no slower than my computer or other phones.

Has to be. FI only works on (some) Nexus phones, doesn't it?

Download an apk for vpn to the laptop, and Bluetooth it over to your phone.
