I'm currently booked to fly FRA-PVG-AKL followed a week later with AKL-PVG-FRA. While for each individual leg I would not require a Chinese visa, I haven't been able to find any information about whether the transit-without-visa would be permitted if both legs were booked on the same itinerary. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hmm, this comes off as quite dismissive to the two posters above, I hope you didn't mean it that way. Furthermore, I'm not sure who this "someone" might be that you seem to want a guarantee from. Of course plenty of travelers who've used TWOV have done it at PVG, in both directions and on a return ticket. Not sure why you are so uneasy about this. This itinerary meets the Chinese requirements and they don't care whether you're on a single all-inclusive ticket or if every single flight segment is ticketed separately. They don't care if you are in your destination AKL for one hour, one week, or one month. It's all about the flights into and out of China, each time through is a new journey. The ticket should also clearly satisfy any concerns posed by airline check-in staff, though some may need to look up TWOV in their TIMATIC database.

Quite to the contrary, i know there's no guarantees for these things and there's a even a wiki on the topic - yet there's still so much confusion so that only "someone" who has successfully obtained a transit visa on the same passport and exact itinerary would serve as "proof" that it works

Use some common sense. One of the reasons China allow TWOV is to facilitate their own airlines to pick up businesses exactly like the OP with a transit in China. If that is a problem, what's the point?

The confusion lies therein that many travelers seem to be confused as to which itineraries are eligible.

Fly from country A nonstop to China
Transit up to 24/72+ hours
Fly from China nonstop to country C

With this kind of insulting attitude toward fellow FTers who have provided ample and accurate advice, I suggest that you are best off by applying for a proper tourist visa before embarking for China.

Yikes, I am really not sure how I am doing such a poor job at expressing myself on this thread.

Didn't mean to insult anyone...just meant to answer the OP's question by stating that I believe what bluehen1 and JPDM is indeed true, but was wondering if someone would come around who has done that exact same thing to serve as final proof.

Personally, I don't feel insulted. I'm just perplexed as to how the invented issue that gave rise to this thread has received any traction at all.
