Hi
I have read through a few pages of the thread but still not entirely clear on whether I need to get the 24 TWOV for a connection if I don't want to leave the airport?
I will be arriving to PVG at 14:15 from a QR flight and would like to connect to a CX flight to HKG. The CX flight will be on a separate ticket and so I was thinking to get a 17:30 or 18:45 flight to allow enough time to transit. As these are part of Oneworld I am hoping QR will interline my luggage on to CX to arrive in HKG.
1) Do you think 3h15m - 4h30m is enough time to transit on separate tickets?
2) Do I need to clear immigration and get a 24 hour TWOV to transfer even if I don't want to leave the airport? I understand these airlines are both in T2, does that help?
3) If QR won't interline my baggage will this then mean I need to collect baggage, clear immigration and get 24 hour TWOV and then check-in in the normal departure area or is there some sort of air-side connections facility?
Any help greatly appreciated.

2) No immigration, and no TWOV required - you just pass through the
connections security.
3) Your luggage should be checked all the way - if not have the transfer
desk sort it out for you.

Thanks for the reply but according to the guide on this page of the PVG airport website it says luggage will only be checked through for LX, V5, NZ and LH and for all other airlines you must collect luggage and check-in again. Has this not been updated?

them the luggage tag and ask if they will transfer automatically or if you have to
collect and re-check.

Going to and transiting through China for the first time in December.
Flying YYZ-PVG-PEK all on China Eastern on one ticket. Do I need to pickup bags in PVG and re-check them? Also I only have 2 hours in PVG. I've read about people freaking out over how 3 hours is already tight. I've done 2 hour connections at other places around the world with no issues, is 2 hours really not enough at PVG?
Also flying DPS-PVG-REP on China Eastern on one ticket. Flight lands in PVG at 7:15AM and the flight for REP does not leave until 10:20PM. Would like to go into the city to explore. Will I need to retrieve luggage in PVG and check it back in. If I do need to pick up my luggage will MU allow me to check it in on the REP flight that early in the morning or is it safer to just pay for luggage storage?
Thanks in advance.

Update For reference.
T1 when connecting from/to MU (CHINA EASTERN) OR FM (SHANGHAI AIRLINES) to/from AF/DL/KL you usually no longer need to clear immigration, nor pickup bags. There's a transfer desk all the way to left in immigration hall. They'll check your passport/BP and issue BP if needed for onward for onward flight. If you have checked bags, they'll be transfered. If it is closed then of course will be required to clear into China to connect. However bags will still be transfered.
If connecting to/from a domestic flight obviously will still need to clear immigration. However bags will be transfered between these airlines.
Note, your bags will still go to the claim belt. However an employer will collect and then send them on the way to next flight.

Thanks for the update. Any idea then if MU to FM and FM to MU also no longer require clearing immigration, international to international?

Hi one of the flights I am looking to book for my mother-in-law transfers thru PVG it is a 5 hour layover it is SGN-PVG-YYZ. She only speaks Vietnamese. If I understand corectly this will be the process once she lands in PVG. She is flying one airline China eastern.
1) Get off plan and board shuttle to Imigration hall
2) There's a transfer desk all the way to left in immigration hall
3) Clear security
4) Go to the gate her flight is leaving from.
Some Questions
1) I think 5 hours is enough for this am I correct
2) Is there an escort service I can get for her to make this easier this will be her first flight alone, the only other time she flew was direct flight inside Vietnam.
3) Right now I am looking at an economy ticket is it worth it to transfer 30K points from one of my credit card to fly her in J or is it nothing special with China Eastern.
4) anyone have pictures of the transfer desk and sinage so I can show her to make it easier for her.
Thanks
Nimitz

1) It should usually be enough for an early morning flight, even if it is delayed for an hour or two.
3) I haven't flown MU for three years. The last two flights were J for HKG-PVG and J for PVG-SFO. I was quite impressed by both the equipment (and the seat) as well as the service. I got better service on MU without status than I did on CX as a DM.
Having said that, I still think that PVG is a terrible airport for transfer. I would suggest flying another route if possible.

Looking at booking a China Eastern PVG to KHN flight departing at 10.20pm arriving on Qantas into PVG at 6.20pm - is this enough time to make the connection?
It will be on a seperate PNR and will have checked baggage. Will have an APEC card.
Thanks

In theory, yes.
Without an APEC card the longest queue I've ever had at PVG was around 60-70 minutes (it was a shocker). Baggage was already waiting by that time. With APEC will be much quicker although you mught have to wait 20-30 mins for your bags to come out.
If your QF flight is significantly delayed you might run into problems, but you'd need that delay to be around 2 hours or more.

Considering you could probably still get to KHN without paying an arm and a leg IF you miss it, I'd go ahead. 4hrs is more than ample time. I'd say your chances of making such connection are north of 99%.

I was wondering if I have enough time for an international connection and if I will have to puck up my luggage. We are flying Air China the entire way with checked luggage in business class and US passports if that matters. TPE(CA196) to PVG arriving 440pm. Departing 735pm to SYD(CA175). IT sounds like it will be pretty hit or miss based on what I am reading.
