Zhuhai Hotels
Not one of the bigger destinations but hitting and hoping that someone can give some advice.
Can anyone recommend a good hotel in Zhuhai? Have pored over C-Trip and Tripadvisor but nothing has really stood out.
Budget isn't too important as there aren't any exorbitant places around there (though of course like most I love getting a good deal!). Requirements are not too demanding - clean and modern is about all, a good western breakfast option would be a deal maker. A bathroom without a glass wall would be a bonus too
Not too fussed about the area, though having a small child would it be best to avoid the Gongbei area? We are visiting with a view to settling down there a few years down the line so would like to be in and about the locals rather than the touristy parts.
TIA!

I've only stayed at the Holiday Inn in Zhuhai, so I can't make any other recommendations based on experience. However using Dianping (a sort of Chinese tripadvisor which I regularly use to check what place might be OK) to find a hotel not in Gongbei, I got the following results for 4 star hotels (just an arbitrary setting), and a review score of 4/5 stars or higher with 10 or more reviews:
1) 2000年大酒店 (2000 Years Hotel)
香洲区人民东路121号2122998
4.5 stars (22 reviews)
Has a "Chinese & Western cafe" according to their homepage
2) 凯迪克酒店 (Catic Hotel Zhuhai)
香洲区吉大区九洲大道东1197号中航大厦内3882222
4.5 stars (19 reviews)
3) 西藏大厦酒店 (Tibet Hotel Zhuhai)
香洲区梅华西路166号2669988
4.5 stars (11 reviews)
- seems to have a western restaurant according to wego.cn
The hotel prices were all around 300RMB for one night assuming a Mar.18th booking.
2000 Years Hotel and Tibet Hotel Zhuhai are in the Xiangzhou district which according to wikitravel "is the area where the locals mainly go shopping" so I guess that may be something in line with what you might be looking for. Catic Hotel is in Jida District.

Thanks for the information!
The Catic is a name that keeps popping up so is definitely on the short list but like most independent Chinese Hotels it looks a bit dated and jaded. There also seems to a a newer place called Fortune Century in Xiangzhou which looks promising.
Looking at traveling next weekend so will leave feedback if I do.

I am a frequent traveler to Zhuhai from the US- and lived in Shekou district of Shenzhen for a few years as an expat for my company, so I was the guinea pig for trying out Zhuhai hotels before booking our US visitors in them.
I tried 2 others in the area- and word of warning- if you are not a smoker- do not stay in the others. Breakfast buffet area was filled with smokers, men lit up in the elevators, it was nasty. The hotels looked nice enough from the outside, the rooms were passable (apologies- I don't remember the names of them), all had a bathtub, and western food options, but too much smoke, everywhere. Maybe it's gotten better in the past year or two, but once smoke is in the carpets and fabrics, the smell lingers on.
Just stayed at Holiday Inn Zhuhai again this week- first stay on executive floor was better, as they now have in room wifi on the 17th floor with better quality soaps and shampoo/conditioner. Second stay in a "regular" guest room was not so nice- carpet was older, dingy and a bit dirty looking, and no wifi for the laptop on the 12th floor. Some of the higher floor rooms (sorry- can't remember how high up) have been more recently decorated- and are lighter and brighter, seem bigger, but I believe they are a higher rate.
Breakfast buffet is ok, avoid the cereals as they are often soggy from the humidity. There's a Starbucks about a 5- 10 min walk down the road at the shopping mall that is a better choice for breakfast in my opinion.

Some years back I stayed at the Shangri-La Zhuhai before Shangri-La dropped that property and per my usual booked a non-smoking room. I had like 16 ashtrays in that room! 13 in the bedroom and 3 in the bathroom! You did not have to budge an inch to use one, there was one at arm's reach no matter where you were stood. You can imagine the smell....

Fortune Century - Meh.
It has just been refurbished so was in OK nick. Can imagine it will go down hill pretty quickly though. Knew it wasn't a central location for the tourist areas but still felt quite far out the way and located in a light industrial area so a ten minute walk to any restaurants. Handy for the Temple and Water Park though.
At 400rmb a night probably better options than this place.
