Question Late Nite PVG Arrival

Hello PVG users and residents.

Arriving at midnight from KUL and I do have a hotel booked in Xuhui but was wondering if anyone suggests just hanging out at the airport all evening in the lounges??

I dislike long taxi rides in the evening when I can't see anything and feel that there is a greater chance of being ripped off. What do you think?

You're not terribly likely to get ripped off by a taxi from the official airport queue; just make sure they use the meter and you'll be fine. PVG to most places in Xuhui should be about 170, no more than 200. If late-night rates are in effect, allow slightly more.

If you have an early flight out of PVG the next morning, you might want to try for somewhere closer than Xuhui, but otherwise there's no reason not to just head in to the city after your arrival, whatever time that might be.

In this case, absolutely no reason to hang out at the airport whatsoever.

I've gotten in at about 11:30pm once in an irrops situation. No problems. We were being picked up, no issue with taxis.

Print out the Name and address of hotel
in Chinese and give to the driver.

Don't go for a tout, make sure to go to official taxi line.

Taken many taxis from PVG late night..some over a hundred miles..
never had any issues.

The main thing is to ignore any touts who proactively call out "taxi" to you. Get a taxi from the official taxi line. After 11pm, I think fares are 30% above normal but it shouldn't be much more than 200rmb even after 11pm.

Thanks everyone. I ended up taking a taxi and it was 220! Expensive I think to Xuhui.
There were some taxi touts present who were easy to ignore.

PVG to Xuhui is comparable to NRT to the outskirts of Tokyo in terms of distance. Do you really think $40 is expensive in this context? (Figure $10 in gas, $15 to the taxi company, an hour of opportunity cost by queing up at PVG, and we're looking at a whopping $10 for the driver.)

Miss those 8.2 rmb/dollar days

150 rmb to xuhui cost 18.29USD

Your "context" is ridiculous. NRT -vs- PVG is a not the same or similar. Maybe in a decade it will be, but not last Wedesday night. Oh and a "whopping" $10 to the driver is an excellent wage.

Assuming you travelled after 11pm that would be the correct price for Xuhui. There is a 50% surcharge based on distance after 11pm.
