Any more information you are able to comment on?

They seem to be building things at a leisurely pace down there -- a stark contrast to high profile projects like the Jinghu Line. I'm just hoping they get Guangzhou online ASAP (i.e. mothball Changsha, Chengdu, Beihai, Youyiguan etc. for all I care). The day that happens, Nanning will cease to be an island.

chornedsnorkack Dec 15, 2013 2:15 pm

For now:
Nanning-Guangzhou 809 km (via Maoming)
Nanning-Guangzhou East 817 km
5 K trains daily, travel time 11:38 to 14:28, hard seat 105 yuan to either Guangzhou station. Also 1 number train (2572) 13:03, hard seat 93 yuan
Nanning-Hengyang 793 km. 10 trains daily, all 105 yuan in hard seat. 2 of the 10 are T (10:15 and 11:20), the other 8 are K (12:07 to 14:00)
Nanning-Changsha 979 km. 6 trains daily, all hard seat 124 yuan. 1 T train (T6, 12:26), the other 5 are K (14:40 to 16:57)

When Hengyang-Guilin-Nanning opens, what would the trip time Nanning-Changsha be?

Pretty much everywhere that takes 12 hours to get to now, including Changsha and Guangzhou, will be doable inside of 3 hours. 12 hours is a serious drag, and flying to/from those cities isn't a picnic either.

Yes, this route is starting on April 5. I thought about trying out the first train. The problem is that even though wuzhou is somewhat close to Guangzhou, the quickest way between wuzhou and Guangzhou is still via Nanning. I watch these developments like a hawk because Nanning-Hong Kong is going to seriously shake things up.

Yes, but it might improve connections between Nanning and Wuzhou. The existing railway, 442 km via Cenxi, takes at least 5:21, and the first morning train leaving Nanning 8:20 arrives in Wuzhou station 13:59. Then the travel from Wuzhou Station to the tomb itself, and sweeping can only start late afternoon....

Opened!

FINALLY, Nanning-Wuzhou schedules appeared.
For the 328 km distance, 4 intermediate stops - identical on the just 2 daily trains. Trip time 2:28 both. Price 2nd class 96 yuan, 1st class 115 yuan 5 jiao. Compare slow trains 5:21 to 6:18, hard seat 64 yuan 5 jiao, hard sleeper 122 yuan 5 jiao.

The oysters are supremely awesome, to the extent that I'd rather risk food poisoning than taint their flavor with 白酒. But, I would like to warn all readers that Zhongshan Lu can be surprisingly expensive if you order at will (i.e. many non-suspecting items are delicacies). My advice on this front is to ask how much things cost up front (this would be gauche if you were entertaining the CEO of an F500 company, but I've yet to face this problem in Nanning).

Do you approach sea slug in the same manner (note to readers: you are unlikely to ever encounter sea slug in Nanning)? I require 3 shots of 白酒 before going to battle.

NP, It helps to remind oneself that we are at the top of the food chain.

(Being Chinese helped. Only thing flying that I won't eat - an airplane, on four legs - a table):D
