Present for a private tour guide?
Hi. I'm currently in Beijing. Today I maked a tour with a group of people to the great wall (to Simatei, it was still possible to get on the wall there). I talked a lot with the tourguide and after the tour we walked together for two hours thru the city. She refuse my money even if she tell me how much she earn with this great wall trips (its not very much). We will meet again tomorrow in the evening an go around. What will be a good present for a chinese women, that I can buy in Beijing? She's about 25 years old and I really enjoyed the time. Which price is fair for a private guide?
Maybe I can buy a barrette for her hair, because she was whering a one. Where can I buy good ones in Beijing?

You might check out the shopping malls near Xi'dan (she dan) on the west side of Tiananmen / Forbidden City. Also Wangfujin Street (Wang foo jing da jier) has plenty of shopping. Why not ask your guide to help you shop for gifts in that area. Pick up something for her, and give it to her at the end of the day.

She told me Wangfunjin Street is to expensive to buy anything and I think she's right because I buy there some stuff before I meet her and I saw all this things later for only 10-20% of what I have paid. I will try it near Xi'dan, thank you.

I was in Xi'dan, it was horrible. It's not like a mall in europe or the usa, its like a market, with hundrets of tables, in big buildings, with one million people.
I didn't found what I'm looking for but I bought a hat for her and she liked it. She will spend her time with me every night in the next week.
I think she didn't do this because she wants a rich friend, she told me she have a friend and her parents didn't allow foreign friends for her. And she still take no money from me. So, I'm very happy about her and I need a big present for friday, when I leave. Any Ideas?

Sorry. Should have warned you that it wasn't like the malls on Wangfujing.
Have you visited Houhai (ho hi) Park during your visit? It's a giant lake that used to be surrounded by lavish homes. Now, it has bars, restaurants and some shops. It's generally somewhat crowded once the sun goes down, and moderately crowded before dark.
There is a nice BBQ joint on the north side of the lake near the bridge that crosses the middle of the lake. It's called Kaorouji (caw row gee) and has excellent food. On the north side of the lake, again near and shooting off from the bridge, there are a bunch of little shops. There was a really nice Tibetan store that I had a lot of fun browsing in.
Maybe just a late afternoon stroll around the lake, a good meal, and fun conversation? Stop at the shops and see if you like anything there.
Be aware, it is somewhat touristy and can get crowded late. There seem to be plenty of cabs waiting near the southeast corner of the lake when you are ready to leave.
Honestly, though, I'm a bit suspicious of her motives. If she's a translator and guide, she needs to be paid. If she is being paid, do know that very few girls want to be known as the type who accept tips (prostitutes are described as "girls who work for tips"). If she's looking to run off with a foreigner, you need to be clear about whether that is going to happen.

Yes, we was there this evening. After that we go to a shop and she looked at the barrettes, so it was a shame that I didn't get the right one in Xi'dan, would be the perfect present.
She accept tips, but only from the other people on the official tour, not from me. She told me she could never learn my language and have to stay home to look about her parents, have a boyfriend, her parents didn't like foreigners. Why should she tell me all this stuff if she want me? I believe her and we will be just friends. At least the distance will be to complicated to think about anything else. And finaly, hey, I meet this girl just one day ago.
