I will be staying at the Hyatt on West lake. Is this a good plan? Also, would I be able to take a bus/shuttle to this hotel upon arrival in Hangzhow?

Thanks.

Well, if you replace the subway with a bus or taxi (to Hongqiao Stn), it is an okay plan. The direct buses that mosburger entail significantly less hassle (i.e. no need to deal with train station), but if you're dying to try the train just for the thrill of it, then maybe the hassle could be justified.

PVG-Hangzhou bus schedule

Bus #1 to Hongqiao Stn/Airport operates every 15-25 minutes according to this page. Meanwhile, there are tons of trains between Hongqiao and Hangzhou.

I recently went out of my way to take the new Beijing to Shanghai *G* train for the thrill (before the accident). Really enjoyed the experience, though the hour plus it took standing in lines to buy a ticket was not!

I'd like to thank you and others who have posted here. I have learned a lot from this board in preparing for my China MRs++.

For quite a while I've been doing intracity runs on the G trains every so often (SH West-SH, Hongqiao-SH, but mostly Hongqiao-Songjiang). Then I try to book a ticket like that on a D train and am told (by three different people at SH main station) that there's a new MoR rule that nobody's allowed to sell intracity tickets on the CDG trains anymore, and that ticket desk people are to be penalized for it. Anybody know what's going on?

I haven't been able to buy any D tickets on the automachines since G was launched, so I assume it was just the push to higher priced tickets.

Are there typically long waits/lines for a taxi at PVG?

(arriving on LX at 7am or LH at 10am during the week)

from reading this post, it does not seem to be an issue, but just want to be sure.

thanks.

The taxi queues aren't too bad, but they are long enough to make the bus a competitive option.

Not really, lines at SHA are much longer but still move quickly.

Looks like Shanghai Daily hired a copywriter from National Enquirer.
The headline is misleading.

They suspended ticket sales past 8/15 until the new schedule is announced.
Thats all.

You meant to say the Shanghaiist, an expat website (very different animal from the Shanghai Daily).

Rather unusual location, so here we go.

- 10:40 Arrived at gate, domestic, Terminal 2 (CZ), very end of the terminal 2

- 11:05 Bag claimed

- 11:10 Taxi to Interconti Expo

- 11:50 Arrive at hotel

Cost: 185 CNY for taxi (which obviously took a rather long route)

Slightly on topic, I took Line 10 from SHA for the first time yesterday, and found it to be infinitely more pleasant than Line 2. Made it to Xintiandi in 30 minutes. My problem is that almost always need to go somewhere along Line 2, but going forward, I will try to schedule engagements along Line 10 upon arrival.

Same observation made last month and line 10 also runs from and to SHA T1 which is a big plus.

Now, if they could only reconfigure a "transit point" to Line 1 somehow. Currently it entails getting out of the gated area, possibly purchasing a new ticket, walking up to street level and then trying to find the Line 1 entrance in a frantic Shanghai traffic setting. At least it looks smooth on the subway map.

I've only done that transfer once (around a year ago), and I was simply taken aback by it. While 500 meter transfers are the norm in these parts, and the same goes -- to a much lesser extent -- for the "leave the station, buy a new ticket" routine, the combination of the two with the added bonus of crossing a busy street, was a first for me.

I strongly suspect that there were/are plans in the works for an underground transfer there... or at least for some sort of protected walkway system similar to transfers between the subways and the elevated trains.

On a more positive note, I transferred between lines 4 and 2 at Century Avenue yesterday, and was particularly impressed by the station layout; 4 lines pass through that place, and all converge in the same general area. It almost reminded me of Metro Center in Washington, DC, but with 10x as many people.

How was the RA treatment at the Expo? Puxi and Pudong IC's treated me fantastic, and at that time I was only Plat...
