BOS TSA Security Changes

As a skymiles PM and weekly traveler out of bos, I was horrified at the recent TSA changes made at the A terminal security lines yesterday. The TSA in all their wisdom implemented their new "ski slope" (black diamond, blue square, green circle) security line process and by doing so removed/merged the delta medallion security line with the black diamond line. Now this line is open to all levels of "expert" travelers and as a result the line almost reached out the door of the terminal. Anyone know if this is a permanent change, or if the dedicated delta medallion security line will return?

What did the green circle and blue square lines look like? My guess is that few will use those...

Any chance it was a temporary one-day change due to Easter and the higher security awareness and insane amounts of travellers?

Stupidest change ever. I really really hope that is just temporary and not a permanent change. Everyone is going to just go through the 'expert' line. So much for actually getting a resonable security line with GM/PM or an F ticket.

While I don't disagree the change is cumbersome at best--and likely stupid--if "everyone" (else) is going through the expert line, then why not be the only pax in one of the other lines?

It just gets spread out... instead of having a huge line that snakes through the ropes and a 'short' straight line for medallion and F, you now have 3 lines of the same long length. Basically the wait got reduced a little bit compared to the normal line and the clueless people that take 4 tries to go through the metal detector, and went waaaaay up compared to the previous short line.

Here is the info on it from TSA:

I'll admit it doesn't sound good. Can't wait for it to get to ATL, not that the premium lines here are particularly efficient.

I would hope that the change is only temporary due to easter, however after asking a TSA agent where the new medallion security line was now that there were three separate lines, she just had a blank stare on her face and pointed to the black diamond sign. As dumb as I think the whole TSA three line process is to begin with, i just hope the black diamond line is not a permanent replacement for preferred security lines for medallion fliers.

TSA is just testing different ways to get people through security faster. DEN and SLC have been trying it out since February.

Delta Air Lines spokeswoman Betsy Talton called the program "a great first step" to improving security checkpoints.

Since there is no mandatory line for pax, why not just pick the line that is the shortest/moves the fastest?

Too bad for all the GMs, PMs and F pax.

jfulcher, where did you hear this? A few months ago I heard by "this winter" and then nothing happened.
I hope you are right.

The 'ski slopes' magically appeared in MCO when I flew through there last Thurs. I used the black diamond line and, IMO, it was an improvement because there was previously no elite line at this Clear location. Line moved pretty quickly and it seemed all the tourists stuck to the other lines. I can see how it would be a negative at an airport that currently has an elite line. No one checking to make sure anyone in the 'expert' line was elite.

Pair this with the CLEAR trusted traveller program, which seems very smugly in bed with the TSA, and you can see how this is a direct strike of the government against the airline's elite security line arrangement to a single government sanctioned program (i.e. CLEAR).

I guess I'll add another half hour to the time I'm going to be spending trying to clear Terminal A security which is just wonderful when you combine it with the closure of the main terminal CRC.

This is a huge plus for MCO. Usually it is torture. Last time I was there, my traveling companion got the secondary treatment, and I was offered the secondary lane too if I wanted to stay with my companion, it actually saved a ton of time!
