Pair this with the CLEAR trusted traveller program, which seems very smugly in bed with the TSA, and you can see how this is a direct strike of the government against the airline's elite security line arrangement to a single government sanctioned program (i.e. CLEAR).

The BOS Term A security screening has been such a clusterfoul since CO moved in that I've actually begun to make purchase decisions with this in mind. DL really needs to work with Massport to do something about this.

Going thru security yesterday morning (5:15am) they had a TSA agent directing people out of the expert line if it appeared ( profile lawsuit someday?) they did not belong in the expert line. This seemed to work well although volume was light at that hour.
Speaking with one of the agents he told me that they were hated the new system and were having "issues" with it, he said it was on a one week trial and it would be interesting to see if they would keep it next week.
I hope come next week it's gone!!!

This sound like another example of TSA not understanding airlines frequent flyer programs. I was always under the impression that if you had medallion status or any elite status you had to be an expert flyer.

They have it in Denver but it appears to be meaningless. They still have an elite security line and a single line for regular passengers. After TSA has checked your ID (I love the way that they stare at it for 30 seconds and then bring out the magnifying glass
) then you go to whichever lane is shortest/closest. I just happened to notice the ski slope designation at that point, but I don't think anyone notices or cares.
One bad thing is that there is no dedicated lane for security. After ID check the regular passengers merge over to the lanes closest to the elite security, which happens to have the black diamond. I have even seen it back up the elite line from moving beyond ID check.

As a skymiles PM and weekly traveler out of bos, I was horrified at the recent TSA changes made at the A terminal security lines yesterday. The TSA in all their wisdom implemented their new "ski slope" (black diamond, blue square, green circle) security line process and by doing so removed/merged the delta medallion security line with the black diamond line. Now this line is open to all levels of "expert" travelers and as a result the line almost reached out the door of the terminal. Anyone know if this is a permanent change, or if the dedicated delta medallion security line will return?

it doesnt do you an ounce of good. But go ahead and waste your money
if you want to do so.
Better to get into the Registered Traveller program than that Clear crap
but you still would go to the black diamond line.

I went ahead and got the free Clear from being a Marriott Plat and I'm completing my signup at the Hyatt downtown on Friday. Supposedly if you complete your enrollment there the "year" doesn't start until something is opened in ATL. At least I'll be ready and can use it elsewhere. The systems between Clear and their competitors are supposed to be connected to so you can use them universally.

You will still go through one of the 3 TSA lines. Stay Clear of "Clear"
it doesnt do you an ounce of good. But go ahead and waste your money
if you want to do so.

It's not costing me any money anyway thanks to Marriott.

Am I the only one who finds it funny they choose Spokane also as a test airport? I can see Orlando and Boston with the high volume to see if this could possibly work in hub city like Atlanta or Chicago but what value would Spokane give? This whole program just seems like another waste of our tax dollars.

It is a waste of our money, but thats what the govt is best at.
And as someone previously eluded to, they're also doing this to try to force people into buying that stupid CLEAR service by killin goff the elite/first lines.

To me, the biggest problem with the implementation at BOS is that the black diamond line is the first one you hit upon entering the terminal or coming from checking a bag. If they made that last, then inexpierenced travelers would take the first line they saw, and experienced travelers would know to look for the expert line.

Clear is the registered traveler program. It's the same system. From what I understand at ATL they are getting their own screeners (Clear will pay the salary) and their own dedicated lines. From what I have seen in other airports they escort the Clear passengers to the front of the line if they don't have dedicated lines.

Seconding you, Clear is a Registered Traveler Program. Whether folks like the idea or not, it may end up being the best bet.
We have used it in SFO and you do go straight through to the front of the security line. Through both times in less than five minutes. I also understand at ATL they want to have their own lane--which they would pay to build and staff. It would be nice if volume and space availability allowed for that everywhere, as it feels a little uncomfortable barging through to the front of an exsisting line.
A couple of folks have posted that the TSA folks and Clear seem to have a cozy relationship. I actually have some fairly good reason to believe that Clear has been continually frustrated with the TSA over a variety of operational issues, and the relationship isn't as close as one might think.
Regardless, if they are going to start this three lane system at ATL, I sure hope Clear is in place beforehand. It isn't a perfect system, but any and everything that can help at the margin in making the hassle of current day travel a little less so, is probably worth it.
