And that's the real problem with this info getting out to the unwashed masses. FTers are more apt to put some thought into it but Joe Schmo will do just what you've described!

Dude! $200?!?!?!?! I hope that comes with a complete legend..."birth certificate", secondary ID (college, Costco etc). There's several places downtown that can get you a "package" containing a state DL/ID, Marticular Consular, jr. college ID and 2 or 3 bank statements all with the same name, DOB and address you specify for about $150! Add $10 for a SSN card and another $40 for a "certificate" set--birth, marriage, death (spouse or parent)--all printed on high security multicolor stock with stamps/seals and everything.

Anybody know or want to take a guess at what the offense would be in using a fake BP to get through security??
I can’t think of what law this breaks.

All hell will break loose!!!

If they get all excited about spotting 4OZ bottle and give you a third degree if you do not remove your shoes, Imagine how many high fives going around for busting that one.

On a serious note - there is plenty of gray area at the airport. No clear laws but plenty of folks making up laws as they like. Along with thuggish attitudes

Schumer said it wasn't illegal, but I never underestimate the ability of prosecutors to apply some law to go after who they want to go after by way of creative application.

I do recall that a certain Senator was introducing something in legislation to explicitly cover "fake boarding passes" or something like that. I think it was the senior senator from New York who was pushing this, but I'll have to revalidate that and find out what happened.

"Ladies and gentlemen, for your safety & security, please step away. Sen Schumer has spotted a camera."

No. The airline will not give you a boarding pass if your name is on the no-fly list. So if you have a (valid) BP and a matching (valid) ID, you are not on the no-fly list. The ID checker isn't checking against the list, just checking for matching papers.

Of course, as pointed out by many, all of this is moot, since invalid IDs (and invalid BPs) are quite easy to obtain.

Isnt that what the RealID is supposed to prevent. One universal looking state ID across the country with more security features (which over time could be easily beaten).

I have noticed folks use foreign passport and Matricular card to go past the ID screener. So the next stop is to get a fake North Korea passport with everything in Korean script. That would be hilarious :D

When's the boarding pass website generator done with his graduate work? Looking for a job with the airline's security/IT area? :D

RealID won't stop that which was amongst its purported objectives; it'll just increase criminality -- and more "sophisticated" criminals' success -- and foster creation and use of IDs that will be even more difficult to challenge.

That is the hottest job area these days. Plenty of contracts worth billions and no questions asked. He could be making a new fangled ID checker based on DNA checks against a central database which is based in every congressional district. Think about the potential $$$ in that.

I am not really for the RealID. Was just stating the justification for the RealID project. This entire business of ID checks is just plain meaningless, every idiot in town wants to see my drivers license these days.

I'm hoping that the Wisconsin Congressman who pushed this expensive, wasteful nonsense -- and pushed it harder than anyone -- gets canned. Too bad it still seems unlikely despite the fact that 20+% of his constituent supporters wouldn't qualify for a drivers license if having to apply from scratch, at least not without paying even more money than before this legislation.

Now this:

"Congressman Edward Markey (D-Mass.) wants the federal government to arrest security researcher Christopher Soghoian for creating the Northwest Airline Boarding Pass Generator, a site which lets anyone create a facsimile of a Northwest Airlines boarding pass. Soghoian hoped to spur Congress to look closely at the nation's aviation security policies, which he calls "security theater."

Some people need to wake up and smell the reality.
