As long as they are not gel or liquid, you can carry it in a dirty sock and they're still okay.

Not Panic. Outrage.

[QUOTE=Dovster]Actually, Traveller, there is no conflict between the two. In fact, I think you will find that if you brush your teeth on the plane you will have a better shot at joining the Mile High Club. :)

More seriously: Aren't we all getting a little carried away here?

No.

You do have a choice in the matter. You can speak up and say, "I am an American citizen and I am therefore innocent until proven guilty. You are treating me like a common criminal, not a customer, and I won't stand for it any longer."

Nobody is panicking. I don't see panic at all. What I do see is outrage, especially among women. If I had a dollar for every man who has high-hatted me with a "well, just spend ten bucks at CVS" comment since these laughable restrictions were put in place, I would have roughly $17.00.

It's not that easy for women, especially when you have an image to uphold, as I do. Men are so funny. They want us to look so pretty but actually believe that it's as simple for us as it is for them when it comes to grooming.

Wishful thinking for Chertoff (Jagoff) and Hawley?

ON THE PLANE???
I'm obviously sitting in the wrong cabin class. Is there a class S-X?

YES! The first organization that can get it's wares in a cart for people (mostly women) who come straight off the jetbridge will be hailed as heroes and have a radiant future...

If I decide to just buy new stuff each week I think I can get by on about $10 a week, and that's buying the cheapest items available. That's another $400 I now have to spend in the name of security. Of course there's also that additional 1/2 hour a week spent in the drugstore, so now I'm up to 100 hours of wasted time a year.

I don't travel to the same place everyweek, but do go to a client site about 8 to 10 times in a one year period. I have about 6 more trips to this client and asked the hotel if I could store some things here until I come back. I bought cosmetics/hair products, etc. yesterday and will try this method, I spent about $25. If it's not here next month, oh well, it was only a loss of $25. If it is here, then this may be the way I go until they hopefully lift some of these liquid/gel bans.

BTW, I could care less about the shoe ban, I hate it, but it's not really costing me much in terms of hours/dollars. I'm barefoot as much as I can be anyway and haven't yet caught any diseases/infections.

My friends who travel once a year also don't understand why I'm irate about all this. Checking luggage once a year is very different than having to check it 40 times a year.

And yes, I do think there is a big need for a landside drugstore that sells travel size toiletries/cosmetics. I'd pay a premium for them at the airport so that I didn't have to make an extra trip to a drugstore after I get to the hotel.

AMEN AND AMEN! Can I get a witness???
Don't know about anyone else here, but not only do I fly nearly every week; it's not just back and forth either. Most of my trips are multi-city. So... not just figure out the toiletries/cosmetics thing once per trip, how about 2-3 times. Plus the luggage thing...

The Homeland Insecurity folks REALLY have GOT to get on this Trusted Traveler program. It will make all of our lives easier, all here includes travelers and screeners!

Well, let's face it, with the few exceptions of the trannys out there, men are idiots when it comes to what it takes to be a moderately-attractive woman. Just even well-kept takes a myriad of products that grows with age... What the hell do they care? All they need is a 50 cent comb, soap, deorodorant, shampoo and a shaving kit. Cripes, they don't even care when the skin on their hands is so dry it cracks...

Yes, that's pretty much a given. Plus, they can stock alot more variety if it's in travel sizes. Hmmm... an excuse to shop, perhaps not such a bad thing. I can expense it anyway.

While it hasn't been commented on, I'd be very surprised if the trusted traveler program that MCO has is doing any good. Everyone's subjected to the stupidity right now.

And with how these guys reacted to the "threats" do you honestly trust them to do a good background check and keep that data safe? No way in hell I'd pay them to invade my privacy, pay them for the "privilege" and bet on them keeping my data safe and not abusing what they have. I guess you trust them a lot more than I do.

Was just talking to a female coworker about this yesterday and she also made this excellent point. I'm lucky in that a quick stop a CVS and less than $10 will take care of me, but I can't imagine having to replace an entire makeup kit.
