keyword is layered. Let’s do the same thing over and over again and call it layered security?
Oh, and let’s just think about this. I managed to get my explosive device past the first checkpoint and I get to the gate and I see that they’re checking again. What would you do.😂.
Yes, we’re safer now than before 911. Thank you law enforcement. But let’s not confuse law enforcement with security theatre.

well, considering the liquid ban is the biggest joke out there. It doesn’t really matter does it?
After all if you work for the airport or the airline you can bring all the liquid you want because they are safe. They would never do anything wrong go back (go read who one of the liquid bomb plotters was if you believe this line we are being fed).

If this is an ID - boarding pass name match check, I had this before including during COVID at LAX.
However, if screening in this content means an additional X-Ray or hand search of belongings or a pat-down search, I have not encountered that.

I've had this a number of times.
Waaaaaaay back when, after 9/11, a TSA dude was reading my magazine as I was waiting to be gate-screened.
Another time, a pregnant Caucasian woman was interrogated, while her Middle Eastern husband (super nice guy) was standing there, holding their toddler, joking with me that it always happened to his wife.
So it is totally random.
(Last time I saw it was Amsterdam, not anywhere in the USA)

TSA really doesn't bother me. I've been travelling weekly or more for over a year now and have not experienced this though, mostly MSP/DTW. I have had this of course flying internationally, usually on late flights from YYC or ex Europe, but ofc that isn't TSA.
That said, if TSA purely exists to "provide jobs" and is a deterrent to even one bad thing a year, it's worth it for me. People get experience, I personally feel safer, and nobody loses lol.
Anyways, having spoken with some people who run TSA facilities in multiple major airports, y'all would be surprised at the outrageous stuff people try to bring onto aircraft. Doesn't have to be a literal threat to a planes structure to be something that people should absolutely not be flying with in the passenger cabin of the plane.

Its not just TSA. I have had rescreening at the gate (answering questions and sometimes looking in carry on) in several countries on flights to the US. Especially if I'm running late to the airport, I prefer the system at SIN (and formerly at AMS) where screening is done only at the gate. It avoids the massive lines to get in the airport and the resulting delays to get to the gate or a lounge. Hopefully they won't close the door on people at the gate who still have to go through security. The downside is it requires more agents.

I have not seen gate checks in some time but when they were doing this nonsense I learned it is was all about timing. That is making sure all the agents were busy when one walks by as they typically only pull someone aside based on an agent being available. Either that I just act oblivious and walk by as they quickly have another unsuspecting victim, err passenger to stop.

It must have been back in 2022 when the U.S. Government still mandated masks at airports and while traveling on airplanes. The intrepid TSA decided to do gate ID checks while we were all lined up in Boarding Groups 1 & 2. The erstwhile TSA Defender of Freedom checked all of our picture IDs against our actual faces. He had extraordinary powers of discernment to identify each one of us while we were wearing our mandated masks. He didn't dare ask us to remove our masks for verification. I deliberately presented my Global Entry ID to the Defender of Freedom with my thumb covering my photo. No problem. We boarded the flight, took off, and we didn't explode mid-flight.
We're doomed....
We're doomed....
