84 years old, uses a walker and traveled to give a talk about the medical experiments she and her twin sister suffered through at the hands of Josef Mengele. How could TSA find this survivor a threat to anyone?

I would imagine that an lady that age is also wearing an incontinence product, which, together with the walker, is a huge signal to the TSA that they have a terrorist on their hands.

I think the TSA brings a lot of this on themselves. There is an adage that whenever an argument starts to include Nazis, the argument goes down the drain. I will therefore hope you read this with caution and sensitivity.

I long tried to understand why the TSA irked me so deeply. Some of my revulsion stems from references to the Third Reich. In fact, these are problems that the TSA could fix.

1. The words "special" and "selection" (as in SSSS) were Nazi code words for execution. ("Special handling," "selection.") The TSA would be wise to come up with just about any other vocabulary.
   
2. No one in uniform, ever, should stand at a front of a line and direct each person to the left or right. I doubt that this chilling reference has even occurred to the TSA. The references are even worse because those in the queue are asked to disrobe, albeit partially.

It would be unthinkable to compare a TSA staff member to a murderous dictatorship. They are not equivalent by any stretch of the imagination. In fact, I have been fortunate to meet many kindhearted TSA staff. But the system in place is needlessly evocative of the most unthinkable crimes.

Family friends and relatives who are survivors never mentioned any profound disdain for the TSA, but I am sure they would understand Mrs Kor's sentiment.

My stepmother, who fled a military dictatorship to live in the USA, is infuriated by the TSA's obsession with identity checks. But her most pronounced anger comes from the announcement that forbids "congregating." It triggers the most painful memories of a world she worked so hard to escape.

These are no snowflakes. These are survivors of devastating, systematic state-sponsored oppression.

I have little doubt that the skies would be just as safe without senseless displays of pseudo-judicial authoritarianism.

Indeed. They are not even remotely equally evil. But that does not mean TSA is not Actual Evil. After all, US Courts have been quite firm in their desire and ability to prosecute and convict Nazi war criminals for their actions. Meanwhile, TSA gets off in almost every instance. The Germans did not re-write their laws to allow what they did, whereas the US has been quite studious in making sure that their laws give the TSA legal carte blanche.


My grandfather did say that many of the Germans he met while fighting in the Western Desert in WW2 were honourable people too.


Yes. There's a *reason* that so many people dislike the TSA.
