Spin-around scan at CPH
My daughter was walking through WTMD at CPH when it beeped ("randomly" according to the agent there). So, she was required to stand in front of the machine on the rubber mat (with foot marks) and spin around, while a screen next to her showed the progress of her turn, and finally turned green.
It looked like some sort of scanner, but it only had a single vertical surface on the side (where the screen is installed) and a rubber mat underneath. I wonder what technology is that?
Oh, she was still patted down afterwards.

I did not realize that and we were not given enough notice. if I thought this is a scanner of any kind, I would have requested an opt out. But - it was not a walk-through system, and screener was within the same area - so I only realized it is probably some sort of a scanner when it was too late.

Just confirmed they are eqo MMW devices that were bought.

Also comfirms opt-out is possible, in which case there will be some other screening (not explained in the text).

Except for those who aren't able to physically take up the surrender position in the machines, it still seems very few are choosing to avoid the strip search machine scans. Most probably aren't aware that they have a choice, and even then many probably don't care. CPH airport was Smith Detections' biggest single non-governmental buyer of these machines. I'm really curious about the money trail.

Since my daughter was thoroughly patted down after the NOS - I think opt-out would be the right thing to do. It's unfortunate I wasn't familiar with this type of a machine and security personnel did not explain what is being done. Lesson learned.
