Holder May Step Down: Napolitano is Replacement Speculation
From the You Can't Make This Stuff Up department.
Holder Announces He Might Not Stay On As Attorney General
Napolitano floated for attorney general
[H/T CBS and Washington Examiner.]
Holder Announces He Might Not Stay On As Attorney General
Holder told law school students at the University of Baltimore School of Law that he does not know if he will stay in his job.
“That’s something that I’m in the process now of trying to determine,” Holder said. “I have to think about, can I contribute in a second term?”

The second term game of Obama cabinet musical chairs kicked into high gear Thursday when Attorney General Eric Holder suggested that he might leave soon. He would join Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Treasury Secretary Tim Geither and Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood on the exit list.
Names immediately surfaced of those who might replace Holder including Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano, who has steered her department through controversial issues and come out generally unscathed.

Bureaucracies are like the Titanic; you can change captains, but it takes a while to change the direction of the ship. I wonder if she can do more or less damage in that position. Probably less damage, so long as she leaves Holder's Civil Rights Division alone. halls, what do you think about Nappy running the DOJ? Can she destroy the Department in 4 years?
The more serious question is who would replace her as DHS Secretary. Frankly, Pistole is the one who needs the most replacing out of the bunch.

Is the writing not right thereon the wall? Pistole, after many years of leading the TSA in safe, terrorist free air travel is then rewarded with a promotion.

Like I said, Titanic.
I never thought of that; how scary. But I don't think he can get confirmed because TSA is a third rail. The administration might not care about citizens' rights, but it would be a political nightmere to appoint the granny-groper in chief. Won't happen. Can't happen.

DOD Secretary Leon P will be going too.
Sadly, I must say I disagree about his prospects were he to be nominated. Pistole would not be destroyed by Senate confirmation hearing to the point of being derailed; instead it is well possible that he would basically get a pass into DHS Secretary position after a bit of a show for display purposes only.
Fortunately, I expect that FEMA director is more in line for DHS Secretary than Pistole. Unfortunately, that means I expect DHS to be around still.

Pissy is the wrong guy. The DHS focus is immigration. Obama might go after another unemployed border governor - Bill Richardson, perhaps. Of course, GW Bush also fits that demographic.
The good news is that any SES, including a political appointee such as Pissy, is subject to the 120-day rule. He can be gone 120 days after a new DHS secretary is sworn in. Let's hope Nappy's replacement was groped once too often by a clerk.

"By lunchtime on the first day" = 4 hours.

I am expecting the next AG to be at least as opposed to the security of passenger liberty and passenger privacy as any AG in our lifetime.
