Confirmed via person at Newark and breaking news update on ABC at 11 AM.

Happens all the time. ESP in EWR & LAX

CDKing Aug 5, 2012 9:18 am

Newark website says:

Be advised, due to an incident occurring at Terminal C there will be flight delays.
fly.faa.gov says no traffic is allowed to depart for EWR at this time

Newark Security SHUT DOWN - Security Breach

Just arrived from FLL. Airport is a mess. Flights arriving but not departing. Security shut down.

This is really silly. First of all, we need more competent TSA who are not distracted on the job, talking about when their shifts end and other jobs they're applying for.

Secondly, at mega-hubs like this, some kind of compartmentalization is needed, so that if/when a breach happens, you don't have to evacuate the entire planet and rescreen...

After an extensive search, it was determined that the passenger left Newark for a flight to Cleveland Hopkins International Airport, according to the TSA.
So does this mean the pax will be "questioned" when they arrive in CLE? ;)

More likely everyone on the plane will have to undergo precautionary screening on arrival (including ID and BP, I'm sure) to ensure that the pax didn't hand something evil off to a fellow pax/conspirator. Pity the poor sod on that flight who somehow manages to lose his/her BP during the flight.

I thought there was a management shake-up not too long ago at EWR that was supposed to help TSA get it together. What is the problem with this airport?

Pity the person who bought a bottle of water in Newark and still has it when they land in Cleveland.

I would guess that since that plane got off on time (one flight was early, one six minutes late), that they had no clue that is where the passenger was. I bet they probably did not figure it out until after it landed and they were long gone.

Or was flying in F and was given a bottle of water by one of the F/A's ;)

Or simply tosses it into the trash can seatback pocket in front of them and (bolding mine) that's a trick question, right? ;)

Oh, there it is. THERE IT IS!!! That's the handoff of a dangerous item from an employee to a passenger. We must now search the entire city of Cleveland and possibly all of Ohio to find this mastermind.

We've discussed this many times: a passenger who is terminating at CLE and declines to be screened. This is a variation on the theme of returning from OCONUS at an airport with no way to exit except through the terminal and refusing screening.

You can bet I will do it of I'm ever caught up in this idiocy.

I'd love to see this. Bet you'd get arrested, but it would be worth it--they'd never be able to get a conviction in court(or even a DA to prosecute).

UA flights EWR-CLE there is a 9:00AM flight, next flight 2:48PM unless the passenger was very early for the 2:48PM flight. I know this becuase I fly this route on a regular basis, last month missed the 9:00AM from a connection
and had to wait till 2:48PM. I did not mind that is I enjoy my time at EWR, expecially at the United Club.
As far as TSA is concerned, how can this happen. Did you see how many TSA employees they have at checkpoints. Even the exit has 2 people ever since some walked through the exit last year.

The question posed in the second phrase is answered in the first phrase.
