Handgun found in restroom at IAH

This time it appears that TSA is blameless

I believe there was a similar incident at CLE within the last 2years, where an air marshall left his service weapon in a restroom there.

Excuse my ignorance, but maybe some of the law enforcment officers in this forum can explain HOW it is that an officer became so careless that resulted in a loaded weapon being left in a restroom at the airport for anyone to find?.

TSA will probably respond by having random screenings of anyone coming out of the restrooms, station a "clerk" at every stall!, actually that might be a better area for the clerks to be at...rather symbolic of what they do to people at the checkpoints

So if a passenger who has a license to carry a firearm forgets he has it while going through the checkpoint, he gets arrested, and perhaps even highlighted on TSA.gov. Let's see what happens to a cop who forgets he or she has a loaded gun and leaves it in the toilet.

Most likely "Time on the Beach", as we call it. Suspension w/o pay.

No one ever who left behind at airport restroom. FAM should have be responsible for handling the gun. They cannot allow to leave behind at restroom. No one to leave the guns at pulic restroom at all.

Yeah, that officer will be severely punished by their department.

Considering how many armed LEO's travel, its a very rare event. But as to how it happens? Because people are not perfect. Guess what, it will happen again. Many years ago when I was working my way through college, I found a firearm a local LEO left at a restaurant table. It happens.

But can I ask, why is it a bad thing that TSA can't be blamed? Is that how some of you look at all incidents at airports - how can we blame TSA for this?

I offer that the TSA is now engaged in a PR war with those that see it's policies and procedures invasive of constitutional rights and personal dignity.

As you can follow here, the hope of many is that large news outlets pick-up stories to raise awareness - and any bad news for the TSA is good news for their opposition.

There are extremists on both sides of the fundamental question of whether the TSA should continue to expand from the current form - or exist at all. It will continue to become a political issue that will be addressed at some point.

The moderates exist on the TSA org (and I am one); but the moderate opinions have no real place in the argument for the moment. Until a dramatic willingness to change exists within the TSA leadership, the guerilla "story by story" public awareness program will continue.

Yup, sure is. He could get termination from the job and they will get disciplinary action against the officer.

Isn't he already being severely punished by being assigned to the airport?

Just to be clear, this incident involved an ICE Agent. Not a FAM.

I, of course am able to only speak for myself. I dont believe I go out of my way to look for some way to blame TSA, blame always seems to find TSA no matter if they are indeed at fault or not.

I will admit my contempt and total disgust for TSO's clouds my better judgement sometimes when its really TSA upper management that comes up with the assinine rules and procedures that we all hate.

That's part of what I was going to say, but here's the other half:

I'll promise not to unload heaps of unjustified criticism on TSA after each minor incident if TSA promises not to unload helps of unjustified and abusive policies and procedures on the traveling public after each minor incident... especially when TSA shares the blame in the minor incident, like the recent fake BP thing.

TSA has so far given me no reason to believe I'll have to keep up my end of the bargain.
