The OP is stating you have to show your BP and ID, then move a few feet and show your ID and BP AGAIN.

By all means, please tell us how this will stop terrorism in its tracks!
Yawn, yawn - Wish I had time to worry about this kind of stuff, but I don't.

I always find SFO TSA staff to be some of the easiest to deal with despite all the circus type changes lately. I never stress going through SFO UA checkpoints as I do at some other airports. Recently tried the Intl UA C/P and had to opt out. Staff were not intrusive and very chatty. This new rule seems weirdly repetive but not worth stressing over

Just my 2 cents

Just FYI, TSA does not run the checkpoint @ SFO. It's a private company.

But it does keep otherwise marginally-employable people in a job. For someone from DCA that might be significant .

I would have said "un-" instead of "marginally-."

And yet you do have time to come on an internet forum just to tell us you don't have time to worry. Strange.

And no time to read the original post; no time to write a relevant responsive comment; and no time to say anything intelligent on the subject.

I would call it a "layer of stupidity".

The company that fills the TSA role at SFO is Covenant Aviation Security.

The current setup is that you show your boarding pass to someone (a contracted employee from some company other than Covenant) to be admitted to the line. Midway through the line, a Covenant employee checks both your boarding pass and ID. A few feet further, another Covenant employee checks your boarding pass and ID. Then you get to go through the metal detector, etc.

Setting aside the inconvenience and annoyance, why are we bearing this cost?

I have seen the ID checked twice here and there around the country. It think it is of limited value itself, but remember that TSA has told us they intentionally vary their procedures from time to time and place to place. To vary them. Maybe that is what is going on here with the private force at SFO.

That may be the case, but why not then randomly require people to hop up and down on one foot for five seconds?

Both provide the same amount of randomness with exactly the same results.

My theory is that the "real" TSA is forcing the SFO contractor to behave idiotically so that passengers will demand that the contractor be replaced by the "real" TSA. Curiously circular, huh?

Quite TRUE, but I think you're missing the point that only ONE of them provides additional employment opportunities. @:-)

These additional employment "opportunities" are the real reason for much of the TSA's nonsense, IMO.
