C'mon guys, you know that the TSA's defintion of screening is infinitely variable so as to cover any loophole. Did somebody mention cargo ?

So shall we also allow all the people who can't shoot straight to carry guns everywhere ?
Don't you think somebody could eventually get lucky ?

Last week at SFO I personally witnessed a 24-cans box going through the machine (and a FAM skipping lines and all detectors by just showing badge).

True, the x-ray doesn't detect liquid explosives and that's precisely the reason why liquids are not allowed through.
A plan involving an airport vendor bringing in the explosive and delivering to its end user past security certainly requires more organization than just buying a couple of cabernet bottles and replacing their content.

All that's needed is ETD/ETP.

Yeah, it was probably tossed in a trash can. Is that the proper way to dispose of "dangerous goods"? :p

The trash can is magical, don'cha know, and will cause all chemical reactions to cease the instant the substance in question crosses the plane of the opening. No worries about exothermic reactions, explosives, binary compounds - it's ALL good! You can put anything and EVERYTHING in the Magical TSA Trash Can, and nothing bad will EVER happen as a result!

Confirmed here.

A friend of a friend is a TSO and I go to this person's house a few times a year. Each time, especially after a kettle heavy travel day, there is a well stocked liquor cabinet. Generally if it's sealed and drinkable, it's not tossed out and ends up at the home of a TSO. The person I know does not ask for the liquor but simply gets "their share" of the loot. A bunch of us also toasted in the last New Year with a nice bottle of Dom courtesy of some unlucky traveller. This person has also given me a number of trinkets like a torch lighter, tactical baton, perfume and swiss army knife.

The suggestion that everything is tossed out or turned in is a joke. I know for a fact and have indulged in the TSA liquids charade. Of course I can't be charged with receiving stolen goods because a TSO would NEVER steal.

Which would be an excellent reason to break the seal and take a gulp of whatever ingestable you're carrying before allowing it to be confiscated.

Make sure to backwash.

I was carrying a good bottle of Cab for my dad, but made it to the airport at the last moment and couldn't check bags. Rather than having TSA throw that in the trash, or whatever it is they do, I gave it to the DL agent.

I bet you had a happy DL agent!

I carry a small bottle of hand sanitizer with me, wherever I fly. I have never had TSA check my backpack, ask me if I had anything like that in my bag, or give me any trouble.

BB claims TSA employees are a well trained, professional work group.

I bet he spews his soda all over the place every time he says such clap.

TSO in ORD on Sunday confiscated an 8 oz. sealed bottle of water from my carryon.

I understand normal procedure is to re-scan the offending bag after harmful explosive devices such as water are removed, but this agent let me go with the un-re-scanned bag after removing the threat.

Blogdad Bob over at PV.

Funny thing was that at around 0800 this morning I went through the checkpoint (main terminal for A gates) at St Louis airport and the gentleman in front of me had what looked like a very expensive metal thermos. Rather than confiscating the thermos and contents they used the strip test on it. Watched as it was done. Strips in two different containers held over the open thermos. No reaction and the thermos and liquids went back through the x-ray. No confiscation. No tears. No screaming at passengers. Passenger was satisfied. ^:)

My hat is off to both management who turned this airport around and to the employees with TSA who are learning. Oh, and shoes were in the bins. The only signage I saw that had anything incorrect on it was a picture of scissors marked as you couldn't carry them through the checkpoint.
