DHS joke of the day: "The guy was stopped in time"

Janet Napolitano on CNN defending the monumental failure:

"The guy was stopped in time."

Right. Passengers put the flames out after the device misfired.

This statement shows how clueless this affirmative action-appointed cabinet member is.

Will Obama fire her?

I live in Detroit on the flight path for Metro airport. This scares the living daylights out of me.

I would rather take hours to be screened, including the see-through machines, than be blown up in an airplane. Yes, it is inconvenient, but so is death, don't you think?

If you refuse to be screened, then a proper strip search is in order. Screw civil rights. Killing me is robbing me of MY civil rights.

This guy was on the terroist watch list and the American Embassay was warned by his father to not be allowed to fly to America. And he had a one-way ticket. HellllLLLLLLloooooo . . . . . . This should have been an automatic trigger for a thorough search, or even denial of passage.

Yeah, heck of a job......and by the way, let's put Harriet Miers on the Supreme Court....after all, she was the Chairman of the Texas Lottery Commission. That position always produces the best SC nominees.

Heck of a job, indeed.

nice one

What a farce. "Stopped in time".

Stopped before he can try it again now that he knows what doesn't work?

What about his co-horts assuming he wasn't acting alone. They now know too what doesn't work.

All this is encouraging me to try my long-term plan of eventually going through screening wearing only a Speedo and flip-flops... with some coins tucked in the Speedo.

But with the coins you would probably set off the metal detector. Given your proposed attire that would surely lead to an unpleasant secondary screening

I would rather the authorities (that we are funding everytime we fly via the 9/11 Security Fee) were more effective at dealing with the latter issues you raise (an individual that clearly should have 'popped up' when his reservation was made, and been subject to far more scrutiny) and then perhaps the general population at large wouldn't have to subscribe to your suggestion of giving up all civil rights so we can be strip searched at the airport.

Then you would be wasting those hours. The TSA theater you see at every airport has nothing to do with real security.

She isn't gay!

She was chosen because she was thought to be "brilliant" on the Mexican border issue, and given a cabinet post as political payback for her early support.

So freakin' what? I live in the flight path for IAD (when they send arriving planes south and then turn back north to land at IAD), and this does not scare the living daylights out of me. And surely the WAS area is a far more attractive target than DTW any day of the week.

So let's ban alcohol, because it's inconvenient to be killed by a drunk driver, isn't it? (Which, by the way, you are at a risk at least 3-4 orders of magnitude higher than that of being "blown up in an airplane." Doubt me? Go look up the statistics.) Ban cigarettes entirely, and coal power plants, because the risks of lung and pancreatic cancer death from those are higher than your risk of dying being "blown up in an airplane."

Yes, the info should have "popped up' when he paid cash for his one-way ticket with no checked baggage.

I pray that your view is in the minority.
