one member wrote: AA is now showing gift cards as "giftcard" rather than general purchase if the csr looks closely. Last year it worked for me, yesterday it did not and csr told me that's why. However, later the same day I also requested the credit by Secure Message (for "baggage fees) and it was approved. Very YMMV now but still doable. 2/10/2017

Southwest Airlines GCs work fairly easily. I've generally bought them for $150 and said they're excess baggage fees.

Pretty similar here, been Platinum based on $10k spend for a couple years. I emailed Lurker and last week when my status bumped down to gold. She forwarded my info on but so far no change, still gold. After reading some posts from others in this forum, not expecting to get a bump back up but we'll see.

So I'm about to use the "club level upgrade" from the RC card for the first time; we're going to the RC Laguna Niguel for Spring Break. Marriott has two promos running right now, and I've signed up for both of them (and they appear in my Promotions section on the web site). One is for double elite nights for every paid stay, the other is for double points starting with your second paid stay. I'm trying to develop the best strategy, as this will be our most expensive hotel stay of the year, by far (everything else is with points or lower end hotels). Questions/thoughts:
1. Are these promos stackable? Can our 4 day stay count for 8 elite nights and get double points?
2. Does it make sense to book a cheap one night stay before this trip? That first stay would be paid trip number 1, and now our RC stay would be paid stay number 2 and qualify for double points.

Thanks for any advice you may have. This is my first year with the RC card; trying to decide by August whether to renew. While it's a pain to call or SM to get travel credits so far it has worked well, with no denials.

You will likely get better answers to these questions in the Marriott forum, as these questions do not relate to the credit card. You can start at

Do this! I'm in a similar situation with Ritz Cancun later this month. I just booked a throwaway night at a local Courtyard for $63.00 to make sure we get the double points on the Ritz stay.

You may be on to something with this thought that Marriott and RC databases aren't quite integrated yet either, among all the other post-merger issues members are having to suffer.

I'll be moving all my future 2019 stays over to Hilton until (if at all?) Marriott can fix this status discrepancy.
So did RC Kyoto ignore your Platinum status from Marriott and only give you Gold benefits during your stay? That would be pretty bold of them, considering that the Marriott app showed you as Platinum.

Does anyone know if the Ritz Carlton card still gives double elite night credit when using it to pay for Ritz stay? I can't find anywhere mentioning if this benefit stayed or gone .

Excellent job @Marriott Bonvoy Lurker II and Marriott!
My status showing plat again! Happy this was sorted out. Many thanks to @Marriott Bonvoy Lurker II for her help.

Last week both the app and website starting showing me as Gold. I contacted the Lurker March 5 via the email and they said they would forward my request to the right department. As luck would have it, i was booked at the Westin Hapuna Resort in Hawaii starting March 8. Lurker said they would contact the hotel for me to let them know about my status issue. They did not say one way or another whether my status would be restored, just that they would send on my request. I arrived at the Westin Hapuna who didnt know anything about any of this, just that I was listed as Gold. They said they would give me Platinum breakfast vouchers if I could get my status restored. I called Marriott, and talked to 2 customer service reps the second more senior one being very very definite that minimum spend would no longer get you Platinum, only nights will, and that he has been telling callers this all day and so, my Platinum status will not be restored. On all the online chatter about this issue, I have not seen anyone with this outcome. Anyone else???? It's possible I missed some new developments on this issue in the last day or so since I am on vacation. Thanks for any wisdom anyone might have.
Wow. My experience was the same when calling, but as mentioned in my post above, Plat has been retored and I just checked with the hotel front desk and they see it in their system too. If you've been eating the breakfast buffet at the Hapuna (which is great IMHO) then I would think they will credit you for it. Yesterday, while we were enjoying breakfast, we could see the humbacks off when coming up for air...pretty amazing.

I don't believe I was given a room upgrade, which did not take away from the overall experience of the hotel (great). The service at the RC Kyoto is impeccable so I had a good stay, but I don't think Plats really get much in terms of elite benefits at an RC property officially. I did not ask for or require a late check-out.

If they had treated you as a Platinum, you would have at least earned a few more points per dollar spent (unless this was a rewards stay). Just curious to know if RC went "rogue" and ignored your Marriott status in favor of what their RC database told them, which I think would have been very bad form, even if you wouldn't have gotten all that much in extra benefits.

There was never any such benefit. The benefit was that members of RC rewards got double EQN at RC properties. That benefit is gone.

Platinums get free breakfast at the RC Kyoto.

So the RC Kyoto is the only RC property that does this? As a rule, RC properties do not provide free breakfast to Platinums, so this is an exception to the rule. I presume you know this through experience?.
