Two of the SAME Chase card?

About 2 months ago, I applied for a Chase Sapphire Preferred for 50,000 points (my first CC with Chase). Enjoying the card, and today in the mail I got the same offer again - 50K points for Chase Sapphire Preferred, with my own invitation code. Can I apply for the card again and get the bonus points, and just carry around 2 cards?

I had actually talked to a CSR last week about a similar topic (trying to bump a bonus) -but got denied because the other offer I was trying to get was targeted. I complained that I had only recently applied for the card, but the CSR said sorry, but in the future if I get targeted offers I could apply again. To me, that sounds like I could have 2 identical cards... but that seems like breaking the rules, no?

Greatly appreciate any thoughts on this. Also, how long are you supposed to wait between Chase apps again? 30 days? 60 days?

Thanks

That might work for a few card issuers, and would even have worked for Chase a few years ago, but since ~2007 Chase has clamped down on such churning. The odds of you getting a second bonus so soon after receiving the first card are functionally nil.

There's no hard and fast rule, but I'd advise spreading apps out at least 30 days. That said, there's a recent discussion in http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/credi...er-thread.html re the prospects for applying for 2 Chase cards simultaneously & then successfully requesting reconsideration after app #2 is denied. Of course, results will vary significantly according to your credit history, amount of outstanding credit with Chase, and income level.

you probably need to wait until at least two years after you cancel the previous card. Chase has gotten tough on churning.

Just to clarify: I meant 30 days between apps for different cards. For the same card, I agree with Jake that a long wait (2+ years after cancellation) is necessary before seeking a repeat bonus.

Thanks, knew it was too good to be true. Wish they would stop teasing me then with sign-on bonuses to cards I already have!
