There are reports on airliners.net of a CX 777 with titles removed parked at the AA hangars at ORD.

Does anyone know which 777 this most likely is?

Nope. Track your incoming flight on the day.

Can someone enlighten me how it will make that flight? It's going to be what, 13-14 hours airborne? I didn't think those early models had the range, and I never thought CX up-rated them? I'm obviously just not privy to something here. But those planes NEVER made such flights for CX, and it was one of those very early 777-200s, even before the -200 ER version!

This has to be the longest flight in its history no?

Range figures are generally published with a baseline passenger configuration and load, even to the line pilots. HNL will be flying completely empty, probably even without seats and cabin fittings. The range will be greatly increased.

Yes, this I'm aware of. But I was under the impression that after derating, this mission was waaaaayyy beyond the range envelope of that plane...like by thousands of miles, empty.

Obviously I missed something with those birds. Totally missed something!!

I don't have knowledge on the range when it's empty but yes, most cabin fittings and chairs are gone which should help a lot.

You can have a look here on the cabin look on its way back to the US:
