Wait...you still didn't answer the question, was it an op-up or K-J upgrade (using mileage)?

It was a mileage upgrade. yiu has mentioned somewhere that he used miles. I believe it was in his TR.

Actually, both new and old UA J {C} have IFE. It's just not on-demand on the old one. Don't want you to get the wrong idea (though, yes, you do have it good... )

Ahh right, have to catch myself. In my mind I just think IFE = AVOD. Once you get spoiled with AVOD I find never watch old IFE systems anymore.

Wow, I guess you never fly in CX or SQ regional configurations in Y. Lucky.

If you do ask for compensation , I think you need prove to make them believe that you IFE wasnt working that day.

The flight crew should have submitted a report.

So you get a free upgrade and then ask for compensation ? amazing no wonder the airlines are in so much trouble with passengers like you creaming every penny they can. Airlines promise to fly you from A to B not keep you entertained

No - he used miles to pay for his upgrade. Please at least make an effort to read before you launch into your cynical grumpy old man with more money than he knows what to do with act.

I am sorry but that too is the wrong attitude. If that is the case then why bother with an IFE at all? And then, why advertise your IFE offerings whilst trying to drown out the competitor's offerings. Whether or not the OP is entitled to compensation is certainly debatable, but by today's service standards, it is also absoultely within the customer's expectation to be entertained while flying. Period.

If the IFE isn't working, they should make an attempt to solve it the best of their abilities. Usually in semi filled flights, this is not an issue. Either ways, the OP certainly has something to gripe about, especially on such a long journey, regardless of whether he was upgraded to J or was a paying J pax.

Thank you for all your valuable responses. I'm not a frequent flyer, but certainly you guys helped. I'm going to write a letter to them and use some photos my trip report as proof.

To the poster above somewhere: It's not free upgrade, it's miles upgrade. Nad I'm not those people nick picking about everything. That's why it took a month until my friend told me to compensate. If I didn't tell him about my trip, I wouldn't even bother. Which is also why the FA did not file a report...because I didn't want to bother anymore after 3 attempts. I hate being annoyed...

If the FA did not file a report, it is a bit late to start writing letters.

Unless he could prove it to them with his Trip Report.
