no redemption on CA cross strait WHY?

I tried to use asiamiles to redeem on cross-strait flight from TPE-PVG on CA.
last month, the agent said the flight is chartered. no redemption
NOW, cross-straight flgihts are schedule flights now.
I called again today, the agent said NO redemtion on CA TPE-PVG
because this kind of redemption ticket will hurt CX and KA profits. They only allow members to redeem CX TPE-HKG-PVG
(iroinically, members can get miles on TPE-PVG CA )

RIDICULOUS!
how come members can not redeem on CA TPE-PVG?
all CA parter members(UA miles SQ miles, CI miles) can redeem on CA TPE-PVG.
ONLY CX asiamiles are afraid! and technically block members for redemtion
just because CX are losing customors because of cross-straight flights!

CX asiamiles is really a coward! They have no reason to block members for redemptions. They should face the challenge of future cross-straight flights.
Not to mention that CA is their big brother now!

I am not aware that you can get chartered tickets with UA miles, but I may be wrong.

Can you use your CI miles instead?

yes

now cross-strait flights are schedules flights now
all miles collection and redemtion are ok in all airlines and in all partners EXCEPT CX asiamiles

UA miles can be used on CA
CI miles can be used on CA and CI
NW miles can be used on CZ CI MU

the flights between CHina and TAIwan are like other flights nothing special now
Only CX asiamiles tried hard to block it with ridiculous reasons

They are scheduled flights now WAKE UP CX TIME to face challenge

How about flights on MU between Taiwan and China?
Since these flights are no longer charted flights, they are now schedule flights.
Can I redeem award flight on HKG-oPVG-oTPE-PVG//NKG-HKG?

they want u to redeem TPE-HKG-PVG on CX ONLY and it costs a fortune of miles and waste a lot of time to trasnfer in HKG

Have you tried using CA mile for redemption of such route? I highly doubt that CA will release any seats on such route. CA is now becoming very reluctant to release award seat especially for the international business/first class seat or the special route like PEK--TPE or PEK--Lahsa.

To date those direct flights are making a lot of money from individuals that is willing to pay a premium for convenience. Also, those flights have heavy competition from tourism agencies buying in bulk. I am not surprise it's almost impossible to get any award ticket for those flights at this moment. Perhaps in the future when more flights are approved for multiple airlines and the market saturates (like the HKG-TPE route.)

award seat available but no redemption

CX asiamiles agents can see award seats on CA TPE-PVG, not really difficult o find availibility However, they dont let u book and redeem. They only allow TPE-HKG-PVG on CX.

I called CA today, they also award seats in Y. But they can not do anything for CX selfish behavior.

It also happens on other airlines as well, in the case below QF award on KA:
http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/qanta...-bookable.html
In this QF-KA case, it is even stranger. Both belong to the same ariline alliance.

I heard about similar cases before (AA & KA). An award bookable on one system may not necessarily be bookable on another.

Sounds like United Airlines StarNet blocking.

It is CA-CX 5-Star blocking

I think the OP should try Taipei (I'm not sure TSA or TPE)-Nanjing on MU or Hangzhou on CA. It's not direct to PVG - but if time is not an issue and you want to burn the Asia Miles, it's not bad..
