CX or SQ from SIN-TPE in Y Class?
I will be taking trips from SIN to TPE in the coming months in Y Class. I am thinking if I should take direct from SIN to TPE on SQ or via HKG on CX. Fare wise, it is cheaper for CX on "V" class compared to SQ "E" class fare. However, I am also looking at comfort, IFE, meals... Sorry if this has been discussed before. Would appreciate if you could share your thoughts with me. Many thanks.

Usually the direct flight will be more expensive. I would think CI direct flight could be more expensive than CX one-stop flight. It reaaly depends on how you value your time vs the comfort of the flight.

There is no guarantee of full AVOD on SQ too as SQ operate B777-200 to TPE, of which only about 50% has AVOD. But of course, CX most probably has no AVOD unless they sub their long-range aircraft on the route.

I agree with both the previous posters. Choose SQ if your budget permits, even if there is no guarantee of AVOD. I have been CX DM for ~5 years and yet I always choose SQ on SIN/HKG, expecially if I have to go Y.

Well how much cheaper is the OP referring to? Unless there is a major difference in the fare quoted to him, go with SQ. Y meals in my experience are superior and more generous in portion (if that matters to the OP for a short haul) and you'd get a nonstop sector.

If you need to make the trip often and have time to kill, then CX would net you 4 sectors per RT versus 2 on SQ and a handful more miles. Perhaps the sectors would be of more value. I don't know how often you need to travel, but if you even do this RT twice monthly, you'd be DM in less than a year.
