Op-Up Changes
I had a conversation with the cabin crew in the gallery on a flight today. They said there was a rumour that now ID passengers are ahead of DMs in op-up. It also seems that there are increasing passengers booking on crowded flights to have a better op-up chance.
I know that the crew members have the op-up list, but it seems they also know who are on redemption upgrades. They do not know the booking classes though.

In terms of revenue generated, I'm pretty certain think a Diamond would trump any ID pax. Does this mean if, Y is overbooked and J is empty, the ID pax (who is standing by for Y) would be put into J first, before upgrading the DM?
IIRC, cabin crew don't have names of pax who are opup'd or on redemption. Has this changed recently? I don't recall seeing any lists of pax names other than the usual yellow sheet in the galley.
I hope this is just a cabin crew rumour, but having seen that CX staff are previously put on the opup list before OW elites and CX Silver, this could well be possible. The question remains though... where's the logic in this?

ID passengers are kind of odd. I presume they are on standby. Even without op-up, an ID90 can still pay 10% of J to get in a J cabin. So I am not too sure exactly what that means. On the other hand, CX may try to discourage op-ups in order to get people to pay J or use miles. That is just my guess.
I always thought that the ISM has the passengers' information on the BPs. So they will likely know op-ups. The ISM told me that she had information on op-ups, mileage upgrades (if I heard correctly), specific arrangements, etc., but has no idea of the booking classes.

Maybe the economic downturn will persuade CX to take extra cash for the upgrades?

Was recently on a flight HKG/JFK and a lady in J wanted to upgrade to F using cash. There was just one seat avail in F, but J was at 50% Finally much to the dismay of the J passenger she was not allowed. The doors were still open, so FA could have managed it with ticketing staff...maybe heavily discounted ticket? or already used miles to get from Y to J
