ps: 2000th post on FT
Of those flights, the 9.45 am PVG - HKG is a regular one. Is there any major difference to the KA 330 in Y/J?

They will have the worst departure time for HKG-YYZ at 2.45 am .

I wonder what I am going to do until that time when my hotel ask me to check out at 14.00 the previous day and I have to spend almost 12 hours on the street waiting for the flight departure.

Personally from a work perspective I really like the late departures. 0245A is VERY late- however the 00:00 departures of LX to ZRH for example are fantastic- you can work, have a dinner with colleagues, arrive at the airport around 22:30, take a shower in the lounge, and then head home.
As for your hotel question- you could always stay another night- or just lounge it at HKG.

I think hotels do let you store your bags. Then you can go out and shop around! If no1 spends, the economy doesn't move! =)

well but the new time, a TOO late departure with a TOO early arrival is not that appealing to be honest... at least for the YYZ route they do not get lots of businessmen. rather students, parents and immigrants, plus quite some transfer passengers to the south-east asia countries.

I doubt any shops will be open after 10 pm in Hong Kong and at 11 pm all streets will be empty and full of bad people

I guess the best thing to do is to head to the airport after the shops close and hang around the airport or rest in the lounge until flight departure time

Well- if you leave HK island/Kowloon at 23:30, arrive at the airport at 00:15, go to the CX lounge after check in (which is also the lounge LX uses as well as CX), relax a bit and have something to eat/take a shower, it will be time for our flight- so...perfect! Why the angry face?
