Does Cathay always run three class planes with three classes active?

Hello:

I am on a flight from HKG-AKL on The 13th or 14th of December. The evening flight is showing a 744 however when I pull up F class availability they only list J class? Is this a F class cabin flying as J? If so...how do I get one of those seats?

Thanks!

I have flown HKG-CTS in a 744 operated as 2 class. Quick thinking when checking in got us into the F cabin.

When that happens, it is a 3-class aircraft sold as 2-class. MPC DM (and somestime OW EM and perhaps MPC GO) can be put in F if they have J tickets. The service in the F cabin is J.

Two years ago, I flew HKG-BKK in a 3-class operated as a 2-class. Because I was on an award ticket in F, but was flying J due to the 2-class, they gave me a seat in the front cabin. Same seat as F on the Trans-pacific route.

I've had this a few times on HKG-KUL (330) and once on DPS-HKF (744) and managed to get an F seat which I assume is due to my OW Emerald status. Not sure of your chances without CX or at least OW status.

Not the case for CX107. It is sold as a 3-class 747. F class is open for both Dec 13 & 14. If you price it out on other booking engines such as www.cheapoair.com., you can get a quote and purchase for F class and when one takes the flight, one will get proper F service with Caviar, etc. Recently the cx online booking engine has been acting strangely where sometimes when one wants to price out a fare for a certain cabin class it gives a fare in a lower cabin even though the intended cabin for the quote is definately open and has space available.

Though F class ends for CX107/8 after January.

No Krug though (Deutz instead) and a shorter wine list (only 2 reds) than some of the other routes.

I think I came across this a few times lately too...when I was trying to book / price out some F trips, the CX booking engine often returned with "Business" in the flight availability screen. at that time I thought it's because there are multiple flights in a day and not all have F, and that's why they showed J only for all...now it seems it's more a system problem ?

I have an upcoming flight HKG-DPS on the 744. Is it possible to request any of the first class seats (I'm particularly after 1A ) prior to check-in or will I need to request a normal seat (86A in my case) and wait until check-in?

you can only request the normal biz class seat but i beleive at online check in you can book the 1A. Or sometimes they block that and only let you opt it on Check in.
