Would someone mind explaining why 885/4 are still listed on the cx website timetable for the period we know for more than two weeks already has been cancelled? I consider this as an irresponsible part on behalf of the IT staff (or whomever is responsible). Really this is nothing short of providing misleading information to the travelers.

More 77As for LAX

Beginning March 1st to March 28th, LAX will get more 77A. CX883/880 will go from 5x weekly 77A to daily 77A. Meanwhile CX882 will get the 77A every Sundays & Wednesdays while the return CX881 will get the 77A every Mondays & Thursdays. CX882/881 the remainder of the 5 days of the week will continue to use the 74A. So this winter LAX will start at 9x weekly 74A + 5x weekly 77A Oct 26-Feb 28 and then move to 5x weekly 74A + 9x weekly 77A Mar 1-28.

So I guess the only reason why CX uses the 744s for this route is for range issues not capacity issues. Now that they'll be getting extra planes with greater ranges they will be taking a lot of the 744 out of this route.

So they reduced LAX-HKG capacity by 40%....

From 7959 total seats (3x daily 74A x 7 days/week) to 4941 (according to flight schedule of OP).

Redemption will get that much harder

Well they bled for 3 years by using 747s on all 3 flights on a market that does not command such capacities. Did so because they did not have enough alternative aircraft with sufficient range to operate this route (hope that was the valid reason for choosing so or it would lead me to believe they were blind to severly overestimate the market). Also bled many years with those winter fuel stops.

So soon they'll have enough new aircraft (77A) with a better range and with appropriate capacity to serve this route. Let's see how it goes.

There will still be 18 F seats daily ex-SFO this winter. If can't reedem anything ex-LAX, ain't so hard to get a 1-hr flight north if something becomes available ex-SFO at the same time.
