LAX Gets the 77A

Effective Oct 26:

CX883/880 will be operated by the 77A 5x per week. The 77A will do this flight pairing Sun, Tue, Wed, Thu, Sat while the 74A will run every Mon & Fri.

CX881/882: No change. Remains 74A daily

CX885/884: Already cancelled as most of us already know.

So this winter LAX will get 74A 9x weekly & 77A 5x weekly.

What's a 77A vs. a 77W? I thought the "W" was the -300ER.

Thank you Rejuvenated,

I just got my A seat assignment changed for November on CX 883 to 1A from 1K.

I am suprised at the downgauge to a 77A as I expected a change to 74A from 74J.

:)

It is a 777-300ER, but the 77A refers to the seating configuration.

Based upon CX's history, we shouldn't be surprised if there are aircraft substitutions and that the 77A becomes a 74A or even (heaven forbid) a 744 or a 74J (if the latter aircraft haven't been reconfigured).

Long-haul route switches are much rarer than for short-hauls, though with the flight not operating as exclusively 77A (ie with 744 two days a week), there may be something similar to the Sydney route round about 2001-02, when the flights alternated between 333/744.

Are there enough B777-300ER out there?

Just 4 delivered so far according to the Boeing website but it looks like deliveries will be ramping up. 23 are scheduled to be in the fleet within the next 3 1/2 years. Total of 26 on order. Maybe CX is getting a slew in the next few weeks. Certainly didn't see any CX 777s on the flight line at PAE 3 weeks ago (lots of EK and a Etihad one. Maybe a PR one too).

There are 8 773ER now with CX. So 2 more expected for delivery within end of October? I only saw a new B747-400ERF in CX colours undergoing tests.

The extra 4 nay be leased aircraft. The 4 stated on the Boeing Site were probably ordered and owned by CX.

Maybe they just changed the designation. AFAIK it's the same plane.

74A...Front of Aircraft so no passing FA's going to Forward Galley

Mrs christep & I took the 77A on 830 last week in 1A/2A and we didn't notice any significant passing traffic during the flight. Based on this experience, as far as I am concerned the 77A 1A/2A (where the two of you almost have a separate cabin since no-one else in F is served from that aisle) is on a par with the 74A experience. The only aspect of the flight that I was disappointed by was the apparently very small quantity of Balik salmon carried - the portion was two small pieces each, with which Mrs christep in particular was very disappointed (on the other hand, I seemed to be the only person who liked caviar, so I was able to have two spoons as my starter for the first meal, and another three as starter for my second :) ).

And without being in any way predjudiced, I was really quite surprised to be the only male in the full cabin (and the only gweilo).
