Last week the secondary screening was mainly to find liquids and not allow them on the plane - even water bottles that were not empty. Not sure why - apparently their initial screening at the entry to the secure area is not adequate.

Frankly the secondary screening wouldn't have found a gallon can in my carry-on... (I have one of the most excellent Redoxx AirBoss bags which is right on the carry-on size limit and packed very tight for a 2 week trip - there was no way the screener was going to be able to dig through it in any meaningful way without basically unpacking it completely).

Just wondering, do you think this happens to you because you are flying F or because you are MPC Gold?

I guess this red stub is no longer existant, is it? I've flown with CX in the last few trip on J and we no longer see a blue stub, its all the same.

It is because the secondary screening is necessary only for flights departing for US and Australia. It is ok to carry water bottles on board if they are bought after clearing the security and the destination is not these two countries. However, for US/OZ bound flights, all liquid containers >100 mL will be confiscated, even thought they are brought within the secured area or taken from the lounge.
