on a wing and a pier

in HKG do you prefer the wing or the pier lounge? why? does it make a difference BC/FC?

I only got to visit the pier, but was wondering what I was missing out on...

I prefer the Wing. It has a view, but it is an open lounge, unlike the Pier.

As far as J and F lounges, F is always better of course, but J is good enough already. If you have access to a F lounge, then there is no need to consider going to a J lounge.

Wing F has a library and a bath and a buffet. Pier F has daybreak rooms and buffer.

I Prefer the pier as I feel it has a quieter more private environment.

I prefer the Wing if using the Cabanas, otherwise I would use the one closest to my departure gate (or both if on a long lay-over).

I love the F Wing for the reasons stated above. It is open and I like that feeling rather than being stuffed away in some windowless room that a lot of lounges are. Not been to the pier so my comment might be irrelevant to this particular lounge.

The waiters are always attentive and helpful. The shops are also close by if you need to pass some time or pick up a gift or two.

As for walks - when you are sitting down for hours on end, I like the walk. I always time it though to ensure there is plenty to get there before departure though.

It is a nice walk to the Pier or the distant gates if not under time constraint. Sometimes I decline a buggy coupon because I plan to walk. I seldom take the train.

OK so I went to the HKG FC lounges this week and while I have been there before this time I had a HUGE layover and had plenty of time to sample everything. I have seen both the Wing and Pier but this time I spent all my time in the Wing.
First, the cabanas are a bit loud. Not so much I care about the noises from other people around me, but I feel so weird. Like I have to tiptoe around so the noise does not echo around the place. I really get a sense that people in there don’t realize there are other people around them in other cabanas. It also feels so odd to be so exposed and see the color silhouettes of people walking past in the frosted glass. Like I am totally doing something wrong in the airport. They had a very shallow wading pond lined with rocks in front of the cabana which when I sat in was totally cold and from which I could virtually see everyone else in their cabana (just kidding of course).
The water power from the showers are amazing, however, you actually have to be in the shower to adjust the temperature. Shower gel was pretty good stuff but they combine the shampoo and conditioner into one product.
I walked out to the Heaven dining area in my robe and slippers and got some very odd looks from the staff. (just kidding again)
Lunch in the Heaven was pretty good – well the best of any lounge I have ever seen. At dinner time they put out some very special items such as lamb and three kinds of fish. After walking over to the business class lounge section I still have to say I like it over there. Everything is laid out for you and you will find things that you did not know even existed over in the FC lounge. There is also a bar in the business class section. I thought most spoke English in Hong Kong but for some reason they could not understand anything I would ask for but maybe I just mumble too much.
Over in the FC lounge the staff will offer you a drink as soon as you sit down but unlike Vegas will bring it to you immediately and will refill it whenever they see it is empty.
There is a downstairs business class part of the WIng that lacks much of anything but a few sorry souls sit down there because the sign pointing upstairs says First Class Lounge so they think they can’t go up. That is sad when I think about it cause they miss out on quite a bit upstairs.

Where is gate 80? I thought the highest number is 71 - although there are signs showing "33-80", I never see where 80 is. I never think it exists.

I walked as far as 48 and 69.

Well, I am not sure I like lunch in the "Heaven", but I certainly like lunch in the "Haven". You can get food from the business side and bring it back to the first. Better still, if you know what you like (noodles, ice cream, wine...), you can tell the waiters/waitresses in the F side and they will bring to you.

Um... the lounge attendant downstairs should have pointed them to the lift to go upstairs.

Not much of a consensus. I guess I will have to go to both and see for myself.

I prefer the Pier myself, as I often find the Wing's (due to its openness) temperature too high most of the time...

J class: Go for the Wing. It's large, spacious, has good views of the runway and overall is pleasant. Assuming I had plenty of time, the only reason I wouldn't consider it would be if my flight was taking off from one of the closer gates (say, 1-4, 13-16, etc) because then it's just way too far away.

F class: Toss-up, although the Pier gives the Wing a run for its money. The Cabanas are great and it's bigger than the Wing.

In all honesty, I prefer the J class Wing over F class Wing. Last two F flights I ditched the F Wing and headed to the J lounge. F class Wing feels stuffy and can be awfully overcrowded at certain times during the time (although it is really hit or miss on the crowded status, but sometimes it can be just absolutely packed). Also, they have these TVs that sometimes pax turn up really loud so they blare at you if you're sitting in the main area. Sure, you get food and all...but if you're F already you'll just caviar on the plane if you're going long-haul, and regardless you'll have plenty to eat going forward. Since I've been flying CX really skimps on the wine budget anyway, so you're basically talking about the difference between a $5-$10 bottle in J and a $20 bottle (with some rare exceptions, usually found in-flight) in F. And the J lounge food isn't bad...you still can get made-to-order noodles, they usually have dumplings, sandwiches etc.

Since when can you get a bottle of LB for $20?
