J class Adl-Hkg

Hello,

I have enough ff miles for trip from Australia to Beijing in J, and am wondering what J class seats are like on the flight Adl to Hkg. To my knowledge, it is a 3 class a330 300. I have heard some bad reports about pitch and seat comfort with the regional business class seats, so would like to avoid these, esp as coming back is a night flight. My other option would be to fly to Sydney (at a cost of about $200-300, and fly one of the 747-400 with long haul seats.

Can anyone offer any advice.

Thank you

I am flying to ADL direct from HKG and the aircraft is 3 class A330 (333) which has the new biz seats. I don't believe CX fly any regional fitout aircraft to Oz, but I could be wrong.

The flight from ADL goes via MEL and only on S M W F.

When are you going? You can view the schedules and aircraft at Cathay's website.

Edit - as noted by other posts the ADL flights are the 3-class A333 with long-haul seats and AVOD.

No need to worry. Since ADL is a continuation of the MEL flight it is operated by the three class A330 (333) unlike other secondary Australian destinations. It has flat seats and AVOD in business. The seats are identical to those on the 747-400, but even if you fly via Sydney, all aircraft are 333 or 34C anyway.

Note that the routing is HKG-ADL-MEL-HKG, ie. on the ADL-HKG leg the flight will be via MEL (one stop).

CX does indeed use regional aircraft on many long routes, including Perth, Cairns, Brisbane in Australia, and all the Middle Eastern routes except Dubai which has 333 on some flights.

Some of these ME flights exceed 12 hours in duration.

Ah yes I forgot about those flights. I generally on fly into SYD, MEL or ADL and have always had the new J seat. Mostly on 333 or 343 3 class aircraft.

Do CX fly any 747 into Oz now?

Not anymore. Ever since they added the 3rd SYD flight all flights have changed to 330, 333 or 34C. Always 333 or 24C on SYD, MEL,& ADL, and 330 on the rest.

How does the CX J experience HKG-ADL compare to HKG-AKL? I assume it's the same skybed product? How about the meal service, etc.?

"skybed" is a Qantas product, not a CX product.

But CX long haul J is the same service everywhere, and both ADL and AKL have long-haul rather than regional seats so there is no difference between them.

Don't CX change to the 747 to MEL/SYD during busy times of the year.

Not any more, its A333 (MEL/SYD) and A34C (SYD) year round now. IIRC, the reason that they send the B744 to MEL/SYD was that they can 'afford' to, I mean the B744 is 'required' on a particular route, this is before they started the third LAX flight and the fourth LHR flight.

But keep in mind there is still a few (2 or 3 ) more second-hand pax B744 to be delivered, we *might* see the odd B744 downudner again.

Those are all being converted to freighters, CX looked at buying used 744s for pax service and decided against it. Presumably they will be buying 747-8s soon, but who knows? Maybe for SYD they will offer some freighter flights with pax on it.
