advice req for using asia miles
Hi.
I was wondering if anyone had some advice for my Husband and I. We both joined asia miles this year to earn points from our Honeymoon trip to Europe where we flew Cathay Pacific. We each have around 23,000 miles now.
We reside in New Zealand, so 23,000 miles is a wee bit short of what is needed to get flights, also we can't get any non-flight rewards as they all need pick up from Hong Kong. I'm not sure if we'll earn enough points travelling on the partner airline Qantas as we normally get the cheapest tickets which it turns out don't earn miles (sigh), and also belong to the Air NZ airpoints programme and have points there which we are slowly using up.
Transferring miles look a bit expensive - $200US to transfer 20,000 miles, ouch!
Any advice?? Or have I ruined it by joining Asia Miles instead of Qantas's programme? My husband is a wee bit disappointed in the advice I gave him now!

It's a good way to top-off Asia Miles for an award.

Also, you might want to check into whether you can get points via your credit card usage.

you're in New Zealand, so there's not much short flight options except Australia..
you can redeem those Asiamiles for two Sheraton hotels in Sydney for 15000 or 17000 points per night..

But only apparently if you have either a credit card which is billed to an address in the USA or an Amex card for some other countries (specifically the UK works, but not sure if any others).
