Question Newbie needs help

Hi,

I am a total newbie here and needs some help on Asia Miles.

My situation is I have 13000 of my 19000 points going to be expired in about 2 months. I checked on the Asia Miles' mileage calculator that it says 15K miles to fly to Toronto. However, after couple phone calls to the different agents, instead of the distance between the orgin and destination, they want to use the actual flying distance since the flight will be on AA and it is connected through NY. Due to that, 25K miles is needed.

So, do the agents correct about the way they calculate the miles? If they are corrected, what will be the cheapest and best way to obtain another 6K mileages? My husband has some mileages but if he transfer a 10K block to me, he will not have enough mileage to go either. He has about 6K to spare.

Please help..... thanks

Linda

I'd call the service centre in HK and see if you get the same answer. What city are you starting from ? If the AM website said 15k, then you'd expect it to be correct.

Sorry on not being clear. On the AM website, between Raleigh and Toronto it says 15K miles. But when I called the HK center, they said due to the connected flight in NY and using AA, I will need 25K miles to get the ticket.

Best to ask your question on http://www.cathaytalk.com/ where the real experts on CX and AsiaMiles hang out. The discrepancy between the web site and the agent makes me wonder which is correct, think you might benefit from another opinion and some pointers.

I can tell you with certainty the agent was correct. The website does not know what fligths exist and calculate distance based on connections - so the mileage calculator is only reliable for direct flights. The number of miles required for an award ticket is the sum of all sectors - that wording is published on the Asia Miles website and confirmed by my experiene.

To find out how many miles you need for an itinerary, enter your one-way itin at http://gc.kls2.com/ and match the distance with this chart http://www.asiamiles.com/en/redeem/flights/charts/#1 This method will always give you the right calculation.
