CX First-Timer--A340-300 Question

I'm finally using my AA 140K mile award in May. My itinerary is JFK-LAX-HKG-AKL-HKG-SFO-JFK. All legs are in F except to/from AKL which has no F class.

I'm currently booked through LAX and SFO (on AA) because there is no F availability out of and into JFK on CX. Is there a chance CX out of and into JFK will become available closer to my departure on May 17?

On the way to AKL I have a 7 hour layover in HKG. I'm hoping to try out the cabanas. Will I be able to do this even though my flight to AKL is in Biz class?

Any advice re seat selection on the A340-300 to/from AKL?

Thanks to all on this board for generously sharing your experience.

I last had 1F I think, the far right first single seat. I would have probably preferred last row next time. Seats don't curve in like BA so it is a kinda weird box you sit in.

I'm on CX888/889 in August. CX wouldn't release 2 A or K so I'm in 1A on both flights. I'll ask in the airport as the conenses here seems to be that 2A is the best seat. They wouldn't release it because it was a bassinet seat. A friend was recently in 1A on the 343 and loved the flight. 1K is right behind the toilet is that matters though.

thanks for the input re seats on the 340-300.

Anybody know where I can access seating plans---the CX website doesn't have the biz/coach configuration.

No, cabanas are only in the F lounge and you must be departing HKG in F (or be EXP) to get access. There are lots of nice showers on the J side though. Obviously you have access on your way back. CX is very diligent in providing OW benefits, and this includes limiting F lounge access only to those eligible -- unfortunately you are not.

For the 34D the seat configuration is five rows (11, 12, 14, 15, 16) in a 2-2-2 (AC-DG-HK) configuration. All five rows are in the one cabin, taking up the space between doors 1 and 2.

Meaning that 11HK will be right behind the loo, and 11G sort of diagonally opposite (equivalent to 1K and 1G respectively on the three-class 34C).

Take note however that in May not all retrofitting will have been complete and CX may operate the odd three-class configured aircraft on the AKL route (sold as two-class, obviously).

As for F lounge access during your layover, I was under the impression that if you were directly connecting off an F flight you had access to the F lounge?
