Very satisfying menu on this flight. SIgnificant turbulence crossing the Indian Ocean but the crew did an excellent job throughout.

CX797 HKG CGK - May 2026

A three-hour delay so a 7pm departure became a 10pm departure with a 1.30am landing in Jakarta because several old 773s broke down at the same time and so there were several other lengthy delays for flights with the same aircraft type.

In any case, dinner was served, but because of an extra 3 hours in the Pier First, I wasn't very hungry.

------------
Excellent in-flight service of former CX standard. I finally found it worthy of commendation by feedback form after the flight.
It's actually nice to see CX trying to refresh the in-flight catering service. The seared tuna was nicely made and represented the better side of CX appetizer.
The Chinese classics of the month with steamed fish was quite nice. The steamed fish was fresh, although the presentation was a miss this time. The spicy prickled vegetable rice unfortunately was quite bland (not spicy at all to me) and required the chili sauce to give a kick.

------------
The chicken main was surprising very tasty and nicely done. However, the potato was very bland and salt / pepper would be nice condiment
Excellent cabin service. Turbluence was quite significant within South Korea and so meal could only be served after leaving the Korea peninsular, cutting short the service time. Yet the cavbin cewe

12:00 midday departure

Lunch

To start
  • seasonal fresh fruit; and
  • marinated prawns with lentil salad

Mains
  • sand ginger baked chicken, kai lan, carrot, steamed jasmine rice (as shown);
  • braised beef shorts ribs, broccoli, celeriac, mashed potato; or
  • Beijing style fish with soy sauce
with bread roll/garlic bread

Dessert
  • selection of Haagen-Dazs ice cream

335/391 <05/26>

------------
The sand ginger chicken was impressively tasty. Although it did not look like its counterpart on land, the onboard version faithfully reproduced the signature taste, and the chicken was tender and juicy.
Service was also excellent with good use of cabin service language (not just "May I?" when collecting items). Turbulence disrupted the service a few times but cabin crew proactively made multiple rounds around the cabin whenever possible and offered drinks when after service.

MAD-HKG 24.5.2026

Exactly the same menu posted by Wolkenwandler in post #96

I had a sore throat at the start of the flight and went against the sage recommendation of the FA by choosing the “cream” of asparagus.
https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...8dce0ba43.jpeg

The soup was flavourless marsh water with an unpleasant almond gravel surprise lurking at the bottom, nothing creamy, nothing asparagusy (didn’t smell it going in didn’t smell it going out), nothing going for it at all. This is the absolute definition of what Japanese call “kappa no he” (a water-monster’s fart - or shart with the gritty bits).
https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...8234d5c88.jpeg
Avoid.
On the other hand, the unannounced amuse-bouche at the top of the photo was terrific - if you like ajoblanco, this hit the spot, with an accent of toasted almond flakes and half a black grape. I remembered how the the salmorejo served on this route as part of the amuse bouche in April was also excellent.

Gambas al ajillo con pisto was the description, but they buried the second lead; ¡Patatas! Best to get a few vegetables in at breakfast if possible, but everything was at its punto. I would happily get this again, good prawns, good pisto, good potatoes, this seemed to play to the strengths of the caterers.
https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...7f925cdcf.jpeg

Breakfast - I went for the Spanish breakfast. Would have liked some onion in the tortilla de patatas, but it is a potato omelet so that’s a me thing. It wasn’t dry, it wasn’t bland, I liked the Spanish identity of the sausages, the tomato was good and the spinach with bechamel was a welcome dose of fibre. Fruit was excellent, particularly the not-seedless grapes.

Hope you are feeling better now. Maybe your sore throat will let you taste a little bit of change. Off topic, be sure to bring some preparations like lozenges and remedies for a bad cold. You can also find such things at Hong Kong Airport. There is a drugstore called Wan Ning where you can buy them.

B-HQC May 25, 2026 9:45 pm

Note salt and pepper is always avaliable upon request in J (very strange I know - CX must be the only airline that doesn't put this on the tray!)

I don’t have a cold BTW - i had a very laborious route between check in and TS4 passport control which took 3 hours (long story) got very dehydrated and then RAN to gate 50 which resulted in a coughing fit once boarded - very embarrassing. Sadly, not much i could have done given you can’t take drinks through. Hopefully the immigration chaos will improve (it was fine last month)

HKG-SHA 26 May CX346

Will upload the menu later. Had a short but wonderful flight with a fabulous FA who graciously bestowed the kind of hospitable flourishes that make a journey really special.

The salad niçoise was a unique version in a good, not weird way and the pork rib in Hawthorn sauce was juicy and pitched just right on the sweetness scale (reminded me a little of HP Sauce/Japanese Bulldog sauce but milder and tamer) and the vegetables tender with some bite to them. Rice was… fine.

-------------------------------------------------------
I was looking forward to the salmon dish (because I pre-ordered it; and because I "lost" it in a previous trip due to mis-connection) but it was disappointing because of mismatch of favour between the cream sauce and the sour cherry tomato and cucumber. (The official page says "complement" but I frankly do not think so.) The salmon was nicely presented though. The starter dishes did not look nor taste appetizing either. Also unfortunate was that the starter duplicated with the main, both salmon. So to conclude it was a disappointing meal.

The crew made up for that though. Multiple proactive offers of drinks and frequent checks on passengers.

ag51 May 26, 2026 10:39 am

That salmon still looks better than one I pre-ordered in January which has been overcooked, the sauce had split and the salmon was hard

The soup looks like a mistake. Maybe it was a packet/powdered soup and they were meant to add a bit of water and stir, in order to bring out the fake creaminess.

First of all, thanks CX for the upgrade to Aria J (which was my first time in Aria seat).

The meal was acceptable. The chicken was rather dry and tough. I felt like trying those ready-to-serve chicken breast from convenient store. The potato was very bland. The nice part was the tiramisu, which was slightly on dry side, but still pleasant to enjoy.

ISM and her team had been cheerful all the way. Kudos to her hard working team.

Soups come in (several) large serving flasks i.e. commercial grade thermos.
